ICC Women World Cup: South Africa defeats Pakistan by DLS method

In the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup, South Africa defeated Pakistan under the DLS method, knocking the national team out of the semifinal race.

The rain-affected match in Colombo saw South Africa post a strong total of 312 runs for 9 wickets in 40 overs. Due to revised conditions, Pakistan was set a target of 234 runs in 20 overs but managed only 83 runs for 7 wickets.

Pakistan captain Fatima Sana won the toss and chose to bowl first. Tazmin Brits was dismissed without scoring, while Laura Wolvaardt led the innings with an impressive 90 runs. Sune Luus scored 61, Marizanne Kapp remained unbeaten on 68, and Nadine de Klerk smashed 41 off just 16 balls. Nushra Sandhu and Sadia Iqbal took three wickets each for Pakistan.

In Pakistan’s batting lineup, Sidra Nawaz remained not out on 22 runs, while Marizanne Kapp claimed three wickets for just 20 runs.

With this defeat, Pakistan’s hopes of reaching the semifinals ended. The team earned only two points in five matches—one of which came from a rain-abandoned game.
