Shoaib Akhtar Granted Stay Order to Stop Filming & Release of Biopic

Former cricketer Shoaib Akhtar has taken legal action to halt the production and release of his biopic, titled ‘Rawalpindi Express’. In an announcement on his Instagram account, Akhtar revealed that he has obtained a stay order against the filmmakers, preventing them from continuing with the filming of the movie.

Expressing his concerns, Akhtar warned that anyone involved in the project would be held accountable by the authorities. He stated that he had issued the stay order due to threats from the filmmakers to proceed with the production despite the legal termination of the agreement. Akhtar emphasized the illegality of the project and emphasized that those associated with it would bear the responsibility for any damage to his reputation. The legal notice also stated that the police would take action to halt any future filming through a court order.

Previously, Akhtar had announced his departure from the film, citing unresolved disagreements and constant contractual violations as the reasons. He clarified that he had completed all legal procedures and revoked the rights to the story of his life.

Eid Battle: Shahid Kapoor-Anees Bazmee vs. Kartik Aaryan

Shahid Kapoor
  • Shahid Kapoor and renowned filmmaker Anees Bazmee are joining forces for the first time to bring audiences.
  • A twist in the tale, as the film is all set to clash at the box office with Kartik Aaryan starrer Chandu Champion.
  • Shahid Kapoor and Anees Bazmee’s highly anticipated comedy is scheduled to hit theaters.

Shahid Kapoor and renowned filmmaker Anees Bazmee are joining forces for the first time to bring audiences a rib-tickling double-role comedy film. Just last month, Bazmee confirmed that he was in the process of penning the script and that filming would likely commence in July or August, once the writing phase was complete. Excitingly, the makers have now also finalized a release date, coinciding with the Bakri Eid weekend in 2024. However, there’s a twist in the tale, as the film is all set to clash at the box office with Kartik Aaryan starrer Chandu Champion.

Shahid Kapoor and Anees Bazmee’s highly anticipated comedy is scheduled to hit theaters on June 14, which aligns with the Bakri Eid festivities. Adding to the anticipation, renowned filmmaker Sajid Nadiadwala recently announced that Kabir Khan’s directorial venture, starring Kartik Aaryan, titled Chandu Champion, is also slated for a Bakri Eid 2024 release on the same day. Consequently, it appears that both films will go head-to-head in a box office battle on this auspicious occasion.

As we eagerly await further details about Shahid Kapoor and Anees Bazmee’s comedy, it’s worth noting that the duo’s collaboration marks an exciting milestone for fans. Bazmee mentioned in an exclusive conversation with Pinkvilla in June that he was currently in the writing phase, aiming to begin filming in July or August. He expressed his enthusiasm about the project and stated that while a significant portion of the writing had been completed, creative work couldn’t be constrained by strict timelines. The untitled comedy caper is reportedly being produced by Dil Raju, but an official confirmation regarding the film’s release date is yet to be announced.

Simultaneously, Kartik Aaryan’s Chandu Champion, a sports drama inspired by an extraordinary real-life story of an indomitable athlete, is set to captivate audiences. The film, which marks the first collaboration between Kartik and director Kabir Khan, promises to be an inspiring tale of resilience and determination. Recently, Kartik himself revealed the film’s title and release date on social media, exclaiming, “Chandu Nahi.. Champion Hai Main..#ChanduChampion – 14th June 2024.”

With two exciting projects pitted against each other on the same day, the clash between Shahid Kapoor-Anees Bazmee’s comedy and Kartik Aaryan’s Chandu Champion is poised to generate tremendous excitement and anticipation among cinephiles. As the industry eagerly awaits further updates, fans can look forward to a thrilling Bakri Eid weekend in 2024, where these two much-anticipated films battle it out for box office supremacy.

Netizens Slam Pakistani Dramas for Mishandling Sensitive Topics

Pakistani Dramas

Pakistani dramas often adhere to a predictable formula in order to achieve popularity, rarely focusing on the exploration of social issues or deviating from the typical family drama narrative. Unfortunately, some of these dramas include scenes that depict women being abused and exploited, and even go as far as justifying false accusations of harassment against men.

In the case of the drama “Mujhay Pyaar Hua Tha,” the storyline takes a disturbing turn by featuring a marriage between cousins, a complicated love triangle, a father becoming paralyzed due to his daughter’s rebellion, and now, the male lead falling victim to a woman who falsely accuses him of harassment. This portrayal implies that women in Pakistan fabricate harassment stories, disregarding the fact that sexual harassment and assault are genuine issues in society.

In a specific scene, a woman threatens Saad, the male lead, with exposing personal pictures of his wife and her ex-lover unless he visits her house. Upon arrival, she drugs Saad with spiked coffee, rendering him unconscious. She then calls the police, manipulates the scene to make it appear as if she was sexually assaulted, and has Saad arrested.

It is crucial for the creators, writer, and actors of “Mujhay Pyaar Hua Tha” to understand that sexual harassment is a serious crime and should not be trivialized or portrayed as a mere fantasy concocted by women for personal gain. It is disheartening to witness the lack of awareness about social issues in these dramas. However, there are positive examples to learn from, such as Mawra Hocane’s refusal to work in a drama that depicted marital rape, leading to the scene being rewritten after discussions with the producer and director.

Twitter users have rightfully criticized Pakistani dramas for perpetuating harmful stereotypes and reinforcing a victim complex among men. It is highly irresponsible to depict false rape allegations, especially in countries where rape culture already exists.

It is crucial for the makers of these dramas to recognize the impact of their portrayals and strive for responsible storytelling that promotes social awareness and sensitivity.
