While their friendly exchange stirred excitement online, Shahid Kapoor dismissed any speculation, calling it a completely “normal” moment. Speaking to the media at the IIFA Digital Awards green carpet, Shahid Kapoor addressed his interaction with Kareena Kapoor, stating, “For us, it’s nothing new… aaj stage pe mile aur hum log idhar udhar milte rehte hai (today we met on stage, but we keep running into each other here and there). But it’s totally normal for us… if people felt nice, it’s nice.”

Shahid and Kareena, who dated in the 2000s, starred together in several films, including Fida, Chup Chup Ke, and Jab We Met. Their relationship ended just before the release of Jab We Met, after which Kareena married Saif Ali Khan and Shahid tied the knot with Mira Rajput.

The 25th edition of IIFA, being held in Jaipur, Rajasthan, will feature performances from both Shahid and Kareena. Shahid is set to groove to his hit songs, while Kareena will pay tribute to her grandfather, legendary filmmaker Raj Kapoor.

He commented on certain actors in the industry who, according to him, are “full of themselves” and make their presence overly known. Mimicking their behavior, Shahid said, “They walk into a room making everyone aware of their presence,” and added that “they need to chill.” These remarks left netizens speculating if Shahid was referring to Kartik Aaryan or Salman Khan.

To address the rumors, Shahid appeared at the HT City office today, January 28, with his Deva co-star Pooja Hegde during an HT City Stars in the City event. During a rapid-fire round, when asked if his comments were aimed at Salman Khan, Shahid clarified, “Haan, but mujhe ek-do logo ne message kiya aisa soch ke. Main toh honestly naa aise hi baat kar raha tha, socha bhi nahi tha. But if I want to take a dig, it will never be at somebody who is so senior, so established, and who I have so much respect for. Just to clear that out!”

Shahid’s fans had faith all along, with one tweeting, “Woh Salman Khan ke bareme kuch bol he nahi sakta. He respects him a lot 🤗,” while another stated, “Salman always appreciates Shahid’s dance and performances.”

Bollywood star Shahid Kapoor, known for his acclaimed performances, recently opened up about a challenging moment in his career while promoting his upcoming film, Deva. In an interview with Raj Shamani, Shahid revealed that he once felt “lesser” before the success of Kabir Singh.

Shahid shared, “Mujhe na aisa feel hua tha, mai specifics mein nahi ghusunga, ki I am lesser (I felt, I won’t go into specifics, that I am lesser).” He explained that while nobody forced him, he was put in a situation that made him feel that way.

“As an artist, as a star, as an individual, mujhe aise situation me dala gaya ki mujhe yeh feel ho ki main kam hun (I was put in such a situation that I felt like I was less),” Shahid said. However, he emphasized that he would never accept such feelings.

Reflecting on the experience, the actor likened it to comparisons in everyday life, stating, “It’s like your clothes are better than mine.” Despite these challenges, Shahid maintained that it wasn’t anybody’s fault and described himself as a “survivor.”

He further added, “One thing I have learned about myself in the past 21 years is that I manage to get out of difficult situations.” Shahid concluded by advising that staying stuck isn’t beneficial, and one must learn to move forward.

Deva, an action thriller, sees Shahid playing a cop alongside Pooja Hegde, Pavail Gulati, Pravessh Rana, and Kubbra Sait. Directed by Rosshan Andrrews and produced by Siddharth Roy Kapur and Umesh KR Bansal, the film is set to release on January 31, 2025.

At the trailer launch of his upcoming movie Deva, Shahid expressed disbelief and concern. “We hope Saif’s health is better. We hope he is feeling better. We all are shocked with what happened with him in a personal space. It’s difficult to absorb (something like this) in a city like Mumbai. I’m sure the police are trying their best…”

Highlighting Mumbai’s reputation for safety, Shahid added, “Mumbai is a very safe city. When a family member or ladies go out at 2 am, it’s still safe. It’s a shocking incident. We are hoping and praying he recovers soon. We are hoping and praying for him all the time.”

When asked about handling such incidents as a real-life police officer, referencing his role in Deva, Shahid responded, “What you are saying is a sad incident. We all are very concerned in the fraternity.”

Mumbai police detained a suspect connected to the attack on Friday morning, as Saif continues to recover and is moved from the ICU to a private room.

Shahid Kapoor’s Kabir Singh, released in 2019, became one of the biggest hits of the year, grossing over ₹250 crore at the box office. Despite the film’s success, the controversial character of Kabir Singh continues to spark debate.

In a recent interview with Faye D’Souza, Shahid discussed the challenges of portraying such a character. He admitted that while he wouldn’t condone many of Kabir’s actions, characters like him do exist in real life.

“It is not really about who I am. It is about who we all can be. Who we all choose to be. What we all want to be,” Shahid explained. “Your learning has to be from that and you cannot make films that are never addressing what is happening in life.”

He further clarified his stance, saying, “I don’t think a lot of things that Kabir did was acceptable at all. I would not accept a guy like that. But do guys like that exist? Do girls like that fall in love with guys like that? Yes they do! So why can’t we make a movie about it?” He added that it’s ultimately up to the audience to decide what they like or dislike.

Kabir Singh, directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, received polarizing reviews and was criticized for promoting toxic masculinity. Despite this, it was a box-office sensation. Shahid will next appear in Deva, set to release on January 31.

Shahid Kapoor shares why he didn’t want to do ‘Vivah,’ recalls his series of flop movies

Vivah is one of Shahid Kapoor’s most commercially successful films. The skilled and versatile actor worked with filmmaker Sooraj Barjatya on this family drama, which he co-starred in alongside Amrita Rao. However, in an exclusive interview, Shahid spoke up about a time during filming when he urged the director to replace him.

Shahid Kapoor recounted his long list of failed films before filming Vivah. “Just before Vivah, one film came out of Sooraj ji’s only called Main Prem Ki Diwani Hoon, which did not do well, and right before that, I had three flops in one month,” Shahid said.

He further added, “I had done Shikhar with Ajay Devgn sir and John Matthew, the director of a film called Sarfarosh, which was a flop. Then I made another film, Life Ho Toh Aisi, with Sanjay Dutt sir and Mahesh Manjrekar, which was a hit combination, but woh bhi flop ho gyi (that too flopped).”

He stated, “They’re probably thinking to themselves, ‘Iska luck kharab hai (His luck is awful).’ Then there was Deewane Huye Paagal, which I don’t believe I ever saw because I was like, ‘Jab samajh hi nahi aaegi toh kya karun mai ab toh kar li hai maine (I won’t understand it anyhow and I’ve already done it), so let’s just avoid viewing it.’ And because all three failed, I was depressed.”

“One day I remember I was shooting, shaadi ka sequence tha, mai shaadi ke kapde pehen ke baitha tha aur Sooraj ji meri van me aaye (It was a wedding sequence, I was in wedding clothes, and Sooraj ji came to my van) and we had shot 8-10 days of the film and I told him, ‘Do you want to change me?'” ‘What happened?’ he asked. ‘See, in one month, three flops nobody has seen… clearly people don’t like me,’ I added. Because this is with all the other performers who are all celebrities and doing really well, they didn’t want to see this film.’ And he simply stared at me. I’m sure he was thinking, ‘Yeh mera hero hai iska hi state of mind itna kharab hai toh mai picture kaise acchi banaunga?’ (He’s my hero, and if his state of mind is like that, how would I create a good film?)”

Shahid Kapoor concluded, “Then he looked me in the eyes and said, ‘Do you know what to do between action and cut?'” Shahid said. ‘Do you understand your role as an actor?’ I said, ‘I do.’ ‘That’s it, just concentrate on that,’ he added. ‘Everything else will pass.’ That’s what I’ve been doing since then. I just concentrate on my work, and success and failure come and go. I know what I’m doing, you know what you’re doing, and you’ll make it.”

Inside Story: Shahid Kapoor Reveals Mira Rajput’s Role In ‘Kabir Singh’

Kabir Singh, starring Shahid Kapoor and Kiara Advani and directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, was released in 2019. Vanga’s Telugu film Arjun Reddy, starring Vijay Deverakonda and Shalini Pandey, was adapted for the film. Shahid Kapoor stated why he didn’t want to portray Kabir Singh in an exclusive interview. Mira Rajput, his wife, was the one who persuaded him to undertake the film!

Shahid Kapoor remembers first seeing Arjun Reddy with his wife Mira Rajput. “Because it (Kabir Singh) is a remake, I saw Arjun Reddy.” Someone had sent it to my place, and I recall sitting with Mira and watching the movie. I viewed the film and thought, ‘This is a helluva fantastic movie, guy!’ This film has done everything that a film is not intended to accomplish. And I’m still crazy for him. He’s doing everything a decent person shouldn’t do. ‘How does this person manage to be so cool?'”

Shahid went on to say that it was provided to him because someone wanted to develop a Hindi version of it. Remakes were not particularly popular at the time. Shahid recalls being hesitant to do it at first. “My first answer was ‘no way am I doing this movie.’ Because this guy is a newcomer and he has done such a good job.” “What happens is that when you see someone for the first time on camera, whatever whoever they are, their personality blends into the character they’re playing,” he stated. “Because you are unfamiliar with them. So your acceptance of them is absolute. Because it’s the first time you’ve seen them, you’ve fallen in love with them, and everything about them is perfect because they haven’t made any errors yet. But then you realize they’re not flawless; they create bad movies. Then they have to make a very terrific film so you can say, ‘now I know why I like this man.'”

“So I was like, this guy has done his first film,” Shahid continued. I’ve been in a lot of movies. I’m not sure if I’ll be able to personify this persona the way he does because people have previously seen me in a variety of roles. And I completed my gyaan (knowledge) by stating, “This is my reason, Mira.” Yer film nahi karni chahiye. (I shouldn’t make this movie)’.

Shahid then revealed Mira’s response and how she persuaded Shahid to perform Kabir Singh. “She just stared at me for 5 minutes and then said, ‘Just shut up and do it.'” It’s the ideal film for you’. ‘Really?’ I said, and she replied, ‘Yeah. People enjoy seeing you in love tales as well as as messed-up characters. This contains both! Simply do it!’ Her reasoning was so straightforward, and I had overcomplicated it for myself, which I guess was a good thing, Kabir Singh.”

Shahid Kapoor’s recent projects, “Farzi” and “Bloody Daddy,” emerged as the most-watched content on Amazon Prime this year. However, Kapoor has shared his insights on the influence of OTT platforms.

Both his web series “Farzi” and his OTT film “Bloody Daddy” garnered significant viewership on Amazon Prime this year. Reflecting on their success, the actor expressed, “Earning the audience’s respect has always been a goal of mine. I believe that once artists, be it filmmakers, actors, or even athletes, earn people’s respect, they can maintain consistency in their trajectory. The trajectory of things is quite uncertain.” Kapoor, renowned for his presence in the film industry, made a striking impact on the world of OTT. He admitted his eagerness to explore his acting prowess on the digital platform, driven by his curiosity about how viewers would react to seeing him in that context.

He elaborated, “As an actor, it’s a misconception to assume that just because you’re a star, you’ll be universally adored. That’s not how it works! Audiences today are discerning and clear about their preferences. I was eager to witness how people would respond to me in this new space,” Kapoor emphasized.

Additionally, the “Jab We Met” star stressed the element of unpredictability, pointing out that many actors are currently experiencing both highs and lows in the industry.

“The industry is witnessing this pattern among several successful actors, where nothing seems to work. Establishing a reputation is crucial.”
