LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Thursday sought a report on the provision of free medicines in hospitals.

Justice Shahid Karim heard the petition related to the unavailability of emergency facilities in government and private hospitals.

Secretary Health Javed Qazi appeared in the court.

Petitioner Dr. Salman Kazmi’s lawyer, Azhar Siddique, argued that the health system has deteriorated over the past three years. The Supreme Court has issued several orders on providing better health facilities.

The petitioner submitted that there are no adequate measures in the emergency yet. Doctors are not available and there is a shortage of ventilators. He requested the court to order to provide better emergency facilities in public and private hospitals.

The court called for a report regarding the provision of free medicines in hospitals and fixing the prices of various tests in private hospitals.

The Lahore High Court while seeking a report from the Punjab Healthcare Commission (PHC) on the next hearing ordered that every effort should be made for better access to health care for the common man. The court will make every possible effort for the betterment of health.

The Lahore High Court adjourned the hearing of the case till January 19.

KARACHI: Sindh Rangers and Police have conducted combing operation in different areas of Karachi during which house-to-house was searched.

The police and Rangers conducted a combing operation in Kemari, Gulshan e Sikandarabad, during which the entry and exit routes of the area were sealed and house-to-house searches were also conducted.

In this regard, SSP Kemari said that the combing operation is being conducted against the criminal elements and the suspects are being checked through the biometric device.

Police said that nine suspects have been detained during the operation while the operation was going on for three hours in Gulshan e Sikandarabad.

On the other hand, a major search operation of the Rangers has started in the Kati Pahari and Sharrah-e-Noor Jehan areas of Karachi, during which the entry and exit routes of the area have been sealed and the Rangers are conducting a house-to-house search.

Sources said that all persons coming and going to the area are being checked while police rangers and women personnel are also involved in the search operation.

Meanwhile, there was a two-way exchange of fire near the Korangi Nasir Jump area of ​​Karachi, as a result of which one accused was arrested in injured condition while two accomplices escaped.

The police said that the accused was identified as Junaid while weapons and stolen goods were recovered from the possession of the accused.

Earlier, an encounter took place at SITE Super Highway Faqira Goth in Karachi during which two suspects were arrested in injured condition.

In front of other police officers and dignitaries, Sanjay Arora, the police commissioner, also gave DCP Jitendra Mani a commendation for his remarkable metamorphosis.
