The Queen will need to rely on her tried-and-true strategy to put her guests at ease as she goes on several engagements to mark her Platinum Jubilee. Julia Donaldson, a children’s author who met Her Majesty when she earned a prestigious award, explained the Queen’s intelligent habit.
Ms Donaldson is the author of the well-known children’s book The Gruffalo, and she was awarded a CBE in the Queen’s honours list.
The author revealed to Whimn: “I was told the Queen goes through the potted biographies with a yellow marker and just two words get highlighted.”
She added: “So when you get called up the equerry shows her the words. I did my little curtsey and she said, ‘Oh, so you’re a writer. You’re very popular…’
Ms Donaldson added that the Queen will see “75 people every session” for the CBE ceremony, despite the Queen’s deteriorating health and withdrawal from engagements.
She added that she was “full of admiration” for the Queen as “she’s on her feet the whole time”.
The Queen’s method of remembering the people she meets allows her to maintain high standards while also giving each contact a personal touch.
