PM Imran in his letter urges Muslim leaders to act against growing Islamophobia

PM Imran letter to leaders

Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan on Wednesday pens a letter to the leaders of Muslim states to counter the growing Islamophobia in non-Muslim states.

PM Imran attached the letter he has written to the political leaders in his tweet to draw their attention to the growing Islamophobia that is encouraging hate, extremism and violence across the world.

“My letter to leaders of Muslim states to act collectively to counter the growing Islamophobia in non-Muslim states esp Western states causing increasing concern amongst Muslims the world over”, tweet along with the letter read.

Earlier, Prime Minister Imran Khan had written a letter to Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg askinh him to ban Islamophobic content on social media platforms.

“I am writing to draw your attention to the growing Islamophobia that is encouraging hate, extremism and violence across the world and especially through the use of social media platforms including Facebook,” read the beginning of the letter.

“Unfortunately, in some states, Muslims are being denied their citizenship rights and their democratic personal choices from dress to worship,” read the letter.

“In India, anti-Muslim laws and measures such as CAA and NRC as well as targeted killings of Muslims and blaming Muslims for coronavirus are reflective of the abominable phenomenon of Islamophobia,” it added.

The premier went on to add that Islam is being misinterpreted in France and has been wrongly associated with terrorism.

On the other hand, Shah Mahmood had urged the United Nations (UN) to take notice and action against the hate based narrative against Islam.

He said there is resentment in the world over the blasphemous caricatures.

He said irresponsible statement of the French President has added fuel to the fire. He said nobody has the right to hurt the sentiments of millions of Muslims under the garb of freedom of expression.

The Foreign Minister said the seeds of hate that are being cultivated today will polarize the society and have serious consequences.

Such hatred will trigger violent attitudes and further divide societies, the Shah Mahmood said.
