‘Your political funeral will come from London’: Sheikh Rasheed slams Nawaz

Sheikh Rasheed

Federal Minister for Railways Sheikh Rasheed lashed out at PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif, warning him that he would suffer the same fate as MQM founder.

Speaking at a news conference in Lahore, Sheikh Rasheed said, “Your political funeral will come from London. Your politics will not thrive in Pakistan now.”

The railways minister challenged the PML-N to resign from the assemblies if they are serious in their campaign against the government. “Hand in your resignations. You will know where you stand,” he said.

The railways minister said that he knew about a secret meeting between Nawaz Sharif and another personality that took place in Istanbul’s Renaissance Hotel.

“Nawaz Sharif, I know about the meeting at Hotel Renaissance in Istanbul [that took place] at 11:20,” he said, putting a finger to his lips.

“I am not allowed to speak on it. And I have prohibited myself from speaking about it.”

Sheikh Rasheed criticized the former Prime Minister, saying that his party had also voted for army chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa’s extension earlier this year.

“Do they think governments go because of jalsas?” asked Rasheed.

“If their jalsa is compared to Benazir’s 1986 and Imran Khan’s Lahore jalsa, then this was a failed and incomplete jalsa,” he said.

He said that the only reason that the 11-party Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) was formed was so that Maryam Nawaz could agree to a compromise with the government and fly out of the country.

Google Play Store Hamburger menu replaced with Avatar icon

Google Play Store Hamburger icon

Google Play Store, one of the most useful applications for Android users as it allows to download all new applications and have access to almost any paid subscription from Google.

Since last year, Google has been concentrating on redesigning the Play Store for the new generation of Android smart devices. This includes a full visual overhaul with changes to the search bar location, moving the Music tab to the main menu, and changing the Apps page to focus on ratings and reviews of the featured apps, etc.

In the latest addition to this makeover to the Play Store, Google decided to remove the hamburger menu. The hamburger menu is a term that describes the three line menu icon that has been used for a long time.

However, Google has decided to replace the menu as some new features in the newer generation. The options that were previously accessed by tapping the hamburger menu icon on the left side of the screen have now been moved to be accessed by tapping the avatar in the top right of the screen.

Hamburger menus used to be popular due to the devices’ small screen size. They served as a tool to hide the additional settings and options in an invisible area that could be expanded by tapping an icon.

The hamburger menu doesn’t play well with the full gestural navigation introduced in Android 10 either. This was the main factor in the decision to remove and replace the hamburger menu.

The Play Store is one of the first apps edited to better match the new user interface in Android 10, but it certainly won’t be the last.

Instagram agrees curbs on paid influencers, says UK watchdog

Instagram paid influencers

Popular photo-sharing application Instagram has agreed measures to crack down on hidden advertising by so-called influencers.

Influencers with thousands of followers can earn large fees from companies to promotes a product on Instagram.

According to Competition and Markets Authority (CMA), Facebook Ireland, which operates the photo-sharing app in Britain, has committed to a package of changes.

“This will make it much harder for people to post an advert on Instagram without labelling it as such,” the CMA said in a statement.

Facebook said the company was pleased to work with the CMA on its continued efforts to increase transparency on when people are paid to post content on Instagram.

“We are also proud to be launching a programme with MediaSmart to help educate young people about branded content and how to identify it,” Facebook added.

The CMA said it has been investigating concerns that too many influencers are posting content about businesses without making it clear they have been paid or received other incentives to do so.

Influencers will have to confirm and disclose if they have received any incentives to promote a product or service.

Instagram will also use technology to spot when users might not have disclosed clearly that a post is an advertisement, the CMA said.

Earlier, 16 celebrities pledged to clean up their act on social media after CMA action, the watchdog added.
