Facebook Messenger adding new features to the app

Facebook is bringing voice and video calling to its social networking service. This is a new attempt to improve the communication features of Messenger after it was discontinued in 2014 as a separate app.

According to the United States, users in some countries will be able to make audio or video calls from the Facebook app starting from Monday. Connor Hayes, director of product management at Messenger, says the new feature is just a test but aims to reduce the need to switch between Facebook’s main app and its messenger service.

Facebook also began testing a limited version of Messenger’s inbox in the main Facebook app last fall. Messenger was first created in the Facebook app but the company removed it 7 years ago and forced users to download a separate app to send private messages from mobile phones.

The latest test was conducted on Monday, a slow but steady effort to internally integrate all of Facebook’s apps and services.

Hayes added that Facebook is beginning to see Messenger as a service rather than just an app, meaning people will use the technology in other ways – to watch videos or play games on Facebook. Relying on video chat while playing Messenger, voice and video calls using Messenger technology are available on other Facebook platforms including Instagram, Oculus and Portal devices.

“You’re starting to see some of these things over time,” said Director Product Management Messenger. Which service do they want to use?

Facebook first enabled messaging between the Instagram app and Messenger in September last year and plans to roll out the feature in its WhatsApp messaging service.

Chief Executive Officer Mark Zuckerberg argues that integrating the company’s messaging services is beneficial to consumers, allowing them to reach more people and reducing the need to download or jump separate apps.

In this regard, critics say that Facebook is linking its services to each other, which may make it impossible to stop the company from going up.

Federal regulators filed an antitrust lawsuit last week to force Facebook to end the mess on Instagram and WhatsApp.

Facebook Messenger is introducing end-to-end encrypt voice and video calls

How to Download Videos from Messenger

Facebook is introducing an end-to-end encryption feature for voice and video calls in their Messenger App. Facebook announced in a blog post that they are rolling out the change today along with new controls for its disappearing messages. Some of their users may also view new test features related to encryption.

Facebook Messenger has already got end-to-end encryption for text messages back in 2016 when Facebook added a “secret conversation” option to their app. Now that mode also supports calling. Facebook says they are adding the feature as interest in voice and video calls raise, saying that the Messenger app now sees more than 150 million video calls per day.

Facebook chat app WhatsApp is already offering to call with end-to-end encryption or E2EE, which prevents anyone but a sender and receiver from seeing the encrypted data. Similarly some other video calling apps like Zoom, Signal, and Apple’s FaceTime. Facebook characterizes E2EE as “becoming the industry standard” across messaging services. Previously rumors have proposed that Facebook might roll out a unified, end-to-end encrypted messaging system across WhatsApp, Messenger, and Instagram but up till now, nothing happened.

Text conversations are getting a smaller update that is if the person is setting a message to disappear, then he will see more options for picking when it expired, from between five seconds and 24 hours.

Facebook is also running a limited beta test for other features that are some users will see an option for end-to-end encrypted group chats and calls between “friends and family that already have an existing chat thread or are already connected.” While others will get support for Facebook’s existing non-E2EE controls over who can reach them on Messenger and finally if you are using Instagram, a “limited test” will offer opt-in E2EE for that app’s direct messages as well.

How to check if someone has blocked you on Facebook

facebook

Facebook, and social media in general, is an oddly fascinating realm. On some lucky days, you meet strangers who become your best friends, but on others, you meet all kinds of creeps.

It might sometimes feel like a party where everyone is having a blast, and other times it can feel like a warzone where keyboard warriors are dropping bomb after bomb of sarcasm, ruthlessness, and swear words.

When things grow heated and tempers flare, one party is very likely to be blocked by the other.

Here’s how to know whether you’ve been blocked on Facebook if you’re on the receiving end of the wrath.

1. Search Through Your Friend List

While deactivated accounts will still appear on your list with their display pictures, you won’t be able to view their profile if you click on them.

If someone has blocked you, their profile will not appear at all. This method does need some patience, but you will eventually discover if you have been blocked.

2. Search for Their Profile

One simple way to see if someone has blocked you on Facebook is to use the search bar at the top left corner of the screen to search for their Facebook profile. Things are well if the person’s profile appears, but if it does not, you have been blocked. If you see a tab on the person’s profile that says “Add Friend,” you’ve been unfriended and things can probably be talked out between you two.

Whether you can’t locate them in the search bar, you can double-check to see if you’ve been blocked or if the individual has just deactivated their Facebook account. Ask a friend of yours to search their Facebook page in the same way you did. If the search yields a positive result, you’ve been blatantly hacked off.

3. Go Through Your Facebook Memories

Memories, a nostalgic element of its application, was unlocked a few years ago. This feature allows you to look back at earlier posts and see who has liked and commented on them.

People who block you on Facebook still appear in your memories, but their profile name is written in black rather than blue. So that’s how you can tell who’s still there for you on Facebook and who’s blocked you.

4. See Your Facebook Groups

Checking your shared friends’ group is one technique to see if you’ve been blocked. You may be able to see their account even if you have been blocked if you are an administrator on any shared groups, however, their profile will be in black font. On the group, you may still be able to see their activities, but not their profiles.

5. Getting Blocked on Facebook Messenger

It’s possible that someone has blocked you on Messenger even if they haven’t blocked you on Facebook. Send a message to someone on Facebook Messenger to see if they have blocked you. You have been stopped from sending them messages if an error notice shows up that says, “This person isn’t available at the moment.”

Over 1.4 billion WhatsApp calls made on New Year’s eve

WhatsApp New Feature

As coronavirus pandemic has restricted everyone across the world to meet their loved ones, however, to connect with them on New Year’s eve, people turned to social media apps like WhatsApp, Instagram, and Facebook.

According to the details over 1.4 billion WhatsApp calls were made globally on New Year’s eve.

While people on Instagram Live and Facebook Live saw over 55 million live broadcasts globally on New Year’s Eve.

The social media giant said that the increase in the use of the technology was more likely due to the coronavirus pandemic.

“In 2020, people turned to technology to stay in touch and get things done in the face of social distancing and stay-at-home mandates, and video calling became arguably the most in-demand feature,” said Facebook.

The social media giant said that on the last day of 2020, hey saw new records being set as it turned out to be the “historically busy night” for their services.
