PM expresses condolence over loss of lives in Washington DC plane crash

ISLAMABAD:  Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed grief over the loss of lives caused by a mid-air accident between a passenger plane and a military helicopter in Washington DC.

On his X timeline, the prime minister conveyed his condolences to US President Donald Trump and the American people at this difficult time.

“Deeply saddened by the tragic news of a mid-air accident between a passenger plane and a military helicopter in Washington D.C. Our thoughts and prayers are with US President Donald Trump and the American people at this difficult time,” he wrote.

Prime Minister Shehbaz also conveyed his sympathies to the families of those who lost their loved ones and prayed for the safety of the survivors.

According to reports, an American Airlines flight collided in mid-air with a helicopter in Washington DC. The plane crashed into the Potomac River.

The jet was carrying 60 passengers and four crew members, and three US Army soldiers were on board the military helicopter.

US Police on high alert in anticipation of possible Trump arrest

Authorities in key US cities are bracing for disruption if ex-President Donald Trump is detained this week as part of a hush-money investigation.

Authorities in New York, Washington, DC, and Los Angeles are beefing up their presence.

A Manhattan prosecutor is considering charging Mr. Trump with paying a porn star to stay quiet about their alleged affair.

It would be the first criminal prosecution of a former US president.

Steel barricades were built outside Manhattan Criminal Court on Monday, where Mr. Trump may be charged, fingerprinted, and photographed if charges are filed this week, as the US media generally expects.

There has also been an increase in police presence outside Trump Tower in the city.

A police source informed CBS, the sources US partner, that every member of the New York Police Department (NYPD), including plainclothes detectives, has been ordered to wear their full uniform on Tuesday and is on ready to mobilize.

The NYPD and the FBI‘s Joint Terrorism Task Force have spoken with the US Secret Service, which is in charge of protecting presidents and former presidents, about a possible arrest.

Capitol Police, who protect legislators on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC, plans to declare an emergency on Tuesday, according to a legislative source.

The directive is intended to improve cooperation with other law enforcement agencies.

More civil commotion Officers will also be on standby, despite the fact that a congressional source stated that there was no specific threat and that the order was preventative.

According to the Los Angeles Times, the LAPD and federal officials were prepared for a pro-Trump protest outside a federal building on Tuesday.

According to CBS, US intelligence agencies have identified an increase in internet threats against legal and government personnel since Mr. Trump announced on Saturday that he expected to be detained on Tuesday.

The majority of the threats were directed at Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, who is generally expected to charge Mr. Trump.

Mr. Bragg issued an email to colleagues on Saturday, the same day Mr. Trump suggested that his followers should protest.

“We do not tolerate attempts to intimidate our office or threaten the rule of law in New York,” the prosecutor wrote.
