FIA to monitor sugar mills during crushing season

ISLAMABAD: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has decided to monitor sugar mills during the crushing season.

Sugarcane crushing season is about to start in the country and FIA has decided to monitor sugar mills across the country during the crushing season.

In this regard, FIA has also formed special teams on the instructions of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. These teams will keep record of sugar production and stocks in sugar mills.

The FIA ​​said that to prevent tax evasion, a record of the sales of the mills will also be compiled on the basis of dispatch, while a record of the arrival of sugarcane and the number of trolleys will also be compiled in the sugar mills.

In this regard, Lahore zone teams have been deployed at three sugar mills and Director Lahore Zone Sarfraz Khan Virk has assigned the tasks to the teams in the meeting.

Director FIA has directed the teams to compile the data with utmost responsibility and honesty. Preventing tax evasion is an important national duty and no lapse will be tolerated.

It should be noted that in the meeting presided over by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif last month, three institutions were assigned the responsibility of taking joint actions to prevent tax evasion by sugar mills and dealers.

KARACHI: Chairman Federal Board of Revenue (FBR)/Secretary Revenue Division Asim Ahmad directed Chief Commissioners Inland Revenue (CCIRs) to make effective monitoring of sugar mills to ensure that there is no leakage of revenue.

Chairman FBR/Secretary Revenue Division Asim Ahmad visited Karachi Port and Large Taxpayers Office (LTO).

During his visit to South Asia Pakistan Terminal (SAPT) of Karachi Ports, the Chairman stressed upon the need for effective and speedy facilitation of national trade. SAPT, previously a part of Appraisement East, has recently been notified as a separate Appraisement Collectorate.

The Chairman stressed upon the pivotal role of smooth port operations towards a robust national economy. Asim Ahmad appreciated Pakistan Customs for its significant contribution towards achieving FBR’s overall targets despite the current import compression. He also acknowledged the efforts of Pakistan Customs to curb the menace of mis/under-invoicing by revolutionizing the valuation methods and assessment approach.

The Chairman also visited the sea terminal yards and berth areas where he was briefed about the port operations through practical demonstration. Chairman FBR fully assured that the Government will make all-out efforts to address the trade related issues at the earliest.

While chairing a meeting at LTO, Chairman FBR reviewed the performance of all Chief Commissioners with regard to targets assigned for the third quarter (Jan-March, 2023). Detailed presentations, outlining the projection and strategy for achieving the budgetary target for the third quarter were given by all Chief Commissioners Inland Revenue.
