8 killed, several others injured in Chilas bus attack

ISLAMABAD: At least eight people were killed and 16 others injured as unknown persons opened fire on a passenger coach on the Karakoram Highway in the Chilas area of ​​Gilgit-Baltistan.

The rescue sources said the incident of firing on the bus took place near Hadar, as a result of which the bus collided with a truck and the bus caught fire.

According to Deputy Commissioner Diamar Arif Ahmed, there were 26 passengers on the bus. He said eight people died and 16 were injured in the incident.

The passenger bus was going to Rawalpindi from Ghizar district, rescue teams have been dispatched to the accident site.

Deputy Commissioner Chilas said that the bodies and the injured have been shifted to Regional Headquarters Hospital Chilas.

Gilgit-Baltistan Interior Minister Shams Lone, while addressing a press conference with special assistants, said that firing on a passenger bus near Chilas is open terrorism.

Assistant Commissioner Bela said 41 bodies have been retrieved from the gorge while three injured were recovered. He said most of the bodies were badly burnt in the incident.

The rescue operation is underway.

It should be noted that at least 41 people were killed and many others injured when a passenger coach fell into a ditch in the Bela area of ​​the Lasbela district of Balochistan near Chenki stop.

According to rescue sources, the passenger bus collided with the pillar of the bridge and fell into the gorge, the accident happened due to high speed.

Rescue sources said that the passenger coach caught fire after falling into the ditch, during the rescue operations, the bodies of 39 people were taken out and shifted to the hospital.

Assistant Commissioner Bela Hamza Anjum while talking to Bol News said that the bodies have been removed from the accident site so far and three injured have been shifted to the hospital.

On other hand, Sindh Assembly Leader of the Opposition Haleem Adil Shaikh expressed grief over the tragic incident with the passenger coach.

He expressed sorrow over the loss of lives in the accident.

Haleem Adil Sheikh said it is a sad accident, the administration should use more energy for rescue.

He said traffic rules should be implemented to prevent such accidents.
