PM calls for global unity for immediate ceasefire in Gaza

PM

NEW YORK: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif strongly condemning the ongoing atrocities by the Israeli forces against the Palestinian people, called upon the international community to forge unity and demand an immediate ceasefire and the creation of the State of Palestine.

“The time has come when we all must come together and demand an immediate ceasefire and the creation of the State of Palestine as without that peace will not return in this part of the world. If this is allowed to linger on, then God forbids, things will become very very tense,” the prime minister told the reporters along with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas after they held a meeting, on the sidelines of the 79th Session of the United Nations General Assembly.

The prime minister said he visited the Palestinian president to show Pakistan’s complete solidarity with the people of Palestine and reiterated the condemnation of the atrocities and genocide being committed by Israel in Gaza, killing young boys, girls, babies, men and women.

“I am here to convey the feelings of the people of Pakistan that our hearts beat together. We strongly condemn this barbaric act. During the last one year, 41000 Palestinian people have been martyred.

Cities after cities, towns, villages, hospitals, schools and infrastructure have been razed to the ground. This kind of barbarism hasn’t been witnessed not only in the recent past but since ages,” the prime minister remarked

He said that the sacrifices, patience and bravery of the people of Palestine would not go to waste but rather would result in the creation of the State of Palestine.

In his remarks, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas said even since before 1948, Pakistan’s position on Palestine had been unchanged as the country had extended the maximum possible support to the people of Palestine.

PM

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reiterated Pakistan’s unwavering support for the Palestinian people and their right to self-determination and strongly condemned Israel’s barbaric actions against innocent Palestinians in Gaza.

The prime minister, in a meeting with outgoing Ambassador of Palestine Ambassador Ahmed Jawad A.A. Rabei who called on him here, said Israel’s barbarism since October 7, 2023, led to the heart-wrenching killing of over 40,000 innocent Palestinians, including women and children, and more than 90000 injured.

He reaffirmed Pakistan’s strong commitment and support for efforts to find a just and lasting resolution to the Palestine issue through a two-state solution with the creation of an independent state of Palestine with pre-1967 borders and Al Quds as its capital, in accordance with relevant UN resolutions.

Ambassador Jawad thanked the prime minister for his support for the Palestinian cause as well as for the hospitality extended to him during his five-year tenure.

PM strongly condemns bloodshed of Palestinian people by Israel

PM

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif strongly condemning the unabated bloodshed of Palestinian people by the Israeli occupation forces and the killing of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh, warned that the lava of public anger would get out of control if the zionist state was not held accountable.

“The zionist state has crossed all the limits of crimes… The lava of public anger is boiling… If justice does not prevail and the zionist state killing innocent people is not held to account, the lava of public fury will be in no one’s control. It will risk the annihilation of world’s peace and development,” the prime minister said addressing the National Assembly after the House unanimously passed a resolution calling Haniyeh’s killing a ‘deliberate conspiracy to sabotage’ Gaza ceasefire efforts and condemning the ongoing Israeli “state oppression and brutality” in Gaza.

The prime minister, who earlier also highlighted the issue in the cabinet meeting chaired by him a while ago and coalition parties meeting, said the whole Muslim world including the Pakistani nation was grieved over Ismail Haniyeh’s killing.

Thanking the members from both sides of the aisle for evolving a consensus on the resolution, he said the parliament’s voice would resonate the world over to shock the enemies of Pakistan and strengthen its friends.

He highlighted that the Palestinian people were suffering the worst bloodshed by the zionist state for the last nine months which killed around 40,000 people including thousands of women and children.

“The cities have turned into cemeteries. The cries have taken over the joys and smiles of the playing children. Palestine is giving a deserted look,” the prime minister said and questioned the inaction and helplessness of the world to end the Israeli oppression.

He said not only the Muslims rather every peace-loving human being, regardless of faith or creed, was questioning the non-implementation of the international laws and human rights charters for which the world bodies including the United Nations were created.

Twenty-year-old is fifth Palestinian martyred by Israeli troops

Troops
  • Israeli forces shot a Palestinian fighter in the West Bank.
  • He succumbed to critical wounds after being shot in the head by the occupation this morning.
  • He was initially transferred to Nablus’s Rafidia hospital.

Nablus: on Wednesday, when the army reported coming under fire during an operation, Israeli troops shot a Palestinian fighter in the West Bank who subsequently succumbed to his injuries, according to the Palestinian health ministry.

The Al-Aqsa Martyrs’ Brigade, the armed branch of Palestinian President Mahmud Abbas’ Fatah faction, identified the deceased as a member.

“Ahmed Amer Salim Abu Junaid, 21, succumbed to critical wounds after being shot in the head by the occupation this morning in Balata refugee camp in Nablus,” the health ministry said in a statement.

Clashes erupted early on Wednesday when troops entered the camp, the army said.

“Several individuals fired at (Israeli) soldiers, who retaliated with live fire,” according to the statement, implying that one person was hit.

He was initially transferred to Nablus’s Rafidia hospital before succumbing to his wounds several hours later.

In a statement, the Al-Aqsa Martyrs’ Brigade stated it “mourns its martyr” after Abu Junaid was murdered in a “confrontation with the Zionist enemy army.”

The official Palestinian news agency reported that undercover Israeli forces had “infiltrated the camp and surrounded a house”. It added that Israeli troops fired “live bullets, stun grenades, and tear gas”.

During another raid in Nablus last week, Israeli forces killed 16-year-old Amer Abu Zeitoun. Both the militants and the Israeli military claimed that armed battles had broken out.

More than 150 Palestinians were killed in the West Bank last year, making it the deadliest year there since records at the international organization began in 2005.

  • A 17-year-old Palestinian died after being shot a day earlier in another Israeli army raid.

Israeli forces killed a Palestinian man in the occupied West Bank on Wednesday while he was attempting to flee an army raid, according to both sides.

The Palestinian health ministry identified the man as Rafiq Riyad Ghannem, 20, and said he was shot by Israeli troops in Jaba, a town in the northern West Bank near the flashpoint city of Jenin.

Israel’s military said it had conducted “counterterrorism activity” in Jaba early on Wednesday.

“The soldiers operated according to arrest procedures, which included the use of live fire toward a suspect who was attempting to flee the scene. A hit was identified,” the army said.

“The soldiers provided medical treatment to the suspect, who was later pronounced dead. The incident is under review,” the army added.

The military said that it had arrested 24 suspects and seized a number of weapons in “extensive” overnight operations across the occupied West Bank.
