FM Qureshi, U.S. Secretary of State discuss bilateral relations

Foreign Minister Makhdoom Shah Mahmood Qureshi spoke with U.S. Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken, today (Sunday). They discussed bilateral relations and important regional developments.

The Foreign Minister reaffirmed Pakistan’s desire for a broad-based and comprehensive partnership with the United States that was anchored in close economic cooperation, enhanced regional connectivity, and a common vision for a peaceful South Asia.

Foreign Minister Qureshi highlighted the salience of transformed Pakistan (Naya Pakistan), with its shifting focus on geo-economics. He underscored that this vision rested on three central pillars of peace, development partnerships, and connectivity.

Foreign Minister Qureshi reaffirmed Pakistan’s steadfast support for the Afghan peace process while underscoring that achieving a peaceful political solution in Afghanistan was the shared responsibility of all Afghan parties as well as the key international and regional stakeholders.

Underscoring the importance of responsible withdrawal, the Foreign Minister stressed that reduction in violence, permanent ceasefire, and seizing this historic opportunity to secure an inclusive, broad-based, and comprehensive political settlement was indispensable.

The Foreign Minister highlighted Pakistan’s immense sacrifices in the fight against terrorism and the progress made in strengthening the anti-terrorist financing and anti-money laundering regimes. He reaffirmed the resolve to continue efforts in this regard.

The Foreign Minister apprised Secretary Blinken of Pakistani people’s deep concern and anguish on the worsening humanitarian situation in the Israeli Occupied Palestinian Territories and underscored the importance of U.S. role in ensuring necessary steps to help address the dire situation, restore peace, and facilitate a just solution.

Foreign Minister Qureshi and Secretary Blinken agreed to stay in touch and work together on advancing the two countries’ shared bilateral and regional interests.

The State Bank of Pakistan issued a statement on Friday that it has started issuing the Islamic Naya Pakistan Certificates (INPCs) for residents and expatriates who have their properties abroad.

Sharing the notification on Twitter, SBP stated that,

” INPCs are in full conformity with Shariah Principles and have been certified by reputed Shariah Scholars.”

It further stated,

“Very attractive expected rates of 5.5-7% on USD & 9.5-11% on PKR #INPCs. INPCs are available only through Roshan Digital Accounts which can be opened online by Overseas Pakistanis & by visiting a branch of one of the 8 RDA banks by Resident Pakistanis”

Earlier, the government had introduced Shariah-compliant regulations to enable resident and non-resident Pakistanis to invest in foreign currencies through Islamic Naya Pakistan Certificates (INPCs) that would build up the foreign exchange reserves, and support the economy of Pakistan.

As per the regulations, the non-resident Pakistanis, who have an account at a local bank under Roshan Digital Account (RDA), and resident Pakistani, who have declared their assets in abroad with the Federal Board of Revenue (RDA), can invest in the three-month to five-year-long Shariah-compliant saving certificates – Islamic Naya Pakistan Certificates (INPCs). They can invest in both the currencies, foreign currencies (especially the US dollar), and Pakistani rupees.
