Karachi: Court orders registration of FIR against Aurat March Islamabad Organizers

Aurat March FIR Islamabad

A local court in Karachi has directed the police to file a First Information Report (FIR) against the organizers of the Islamabad Women’s March.

The court’s order comes a day after a local Peshawar court ordered the registration of an FIR against the organizers of the march for allegedly making insulting posters with degrading words.

Karachi Additional District and Sessions Judge South passed the order on an application to the Station House Officer (SHO) City Courts Police Station against Advocate GM Arain under Section 22A of the Pakistan Penal Code against the SHO of the same police station, who allegedly refused to grant application for an FIR against the organizers of the Aurtat march.

Section 22A gives the courts the power to make orders under Justice for Peace and may order the filing of an FIR for failure to register a case.

Petitioner said he and other members of the Karachi Bar Association watched the march on a TV channel that was being broadcast from the federal capital.

He said that during the march, inappropriate words were used against religious saints and their spouses and provocative slogans were chanted.

The petitioner added that obscene and anti-Islamic slogans were raised during the march.

He said that the members of Karachi Bar Association had passed a resolution condemning such measures in the name of women’s emancipation and women’s rights by the organizers and participants.

Mera Jism Meri Marzi

Mera Jism Meri Marzi is a feminist slogan raised by feminists in Pakistan and India demanding women’s right to bodily autonomy, abortion, and against gender-based violence.

The Raees actress revealed why she attends the Aurat March every year.

“I think it is necessary for me [to go to Aurat March] because I think when I do something, no matter how small it is, it leaves an impact,” said the actor. “So when I go to Aurat March, what I’m actually trying to say is ‘Look, if you like me and if you think what I say means something if you think I that I’m on the right side of history, or whatever you think of me, this is also what I believe in, this is why I’m here.’”

“Honestly, mere Aurat March jaane se itna ziada kuch nae hota siwaye iske ke it creates an impact,” added Mahira.

The Superstar actress during the interview also shared her view on the slogan Mera Jism Meri Marzi.

“It [the slogan] doesn’t mean that I want to rip off my clothes. It means that I’m a whole person. This is my body, and if you are looking at me and I’m not feeling comfortable about it, I have the right to say that don’t look at me. Or if you are trying to touch me I can report you, because yeh mera jism hai, aur yeh meri marzi hai [it’s my body, and I have complete right over it].”

Mahira Khan also shared the three things she finds attractive in a man. While responding to the host’s question, she said,

“I find both men and women attractive when they are at complete peace with themselves.”

“Secondly, I love a sense of humor”, shared Mahira. “I like someone who makes me laugh and if someone is not making me laugh then I make them laugh.”

“Thirdly I like it when a man truly respects a woman,” added the actor.

Mahira Khan has stepped into the production with a web series titled Baarwan Khiladi. She has started her production house Soulfry Films with her friend and producer Nina Kashif.
