Tom Cruise already knew Top Gun Maverick won’t win

  • Tom Cruise chose to spend the evening in an igloo rather than attend the 95th Academy Awards.
  • ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ was nominated for a Best Picture award.
  • He declined the opportunity to fly to Hollywood on a private jet to attend the Oscars.

Tom Cruise chose to spend the evening in an igloo rather than attend the 95th Academy Awards.

The actor’s hit film ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ was nominated for a Best Picture award at the ceremony, but he was nowhere to be found, according to reports.

Tom Cruise is said to have “known” the film would miss out on the Oscar and so decided to “get on with doing what he does best”. According to a source, the 60-year-old Hollywood legend flew to Svalbard, 500 miles south of the North Pole, to film scenes for the eighth installment of ‘Mission Impossible.’

According to sources, Tom Cruise is thought to have been joined by director Chris McQuarrie after declining the opportunity to fly to Hollywood on a private jet to attend the Oscars.

Reports, “Tom just knows how these things play out – he’d rather get on with doing what he does best and making amazing movies that millions want to go and see than sit in an audience clapping and smiling for the cameras. He’s seen it all before”.

‘Top Gun: Maverick’ received six Academy Award nominations but received only one award for Best Sound.

Deets inside. Tom Cruise was not permitted to fly fighter planes in ‘Top Gun: Maverick’

Tom Cruise

Top Gun: Maverick, the highly awaited film starring Tom Cruise, was released in theatres worldwide on May 27.

Crusie, 59, who played Captain Pete ‘Maverick’ Mitchell in the sequel to 1986’s blockbuster Top Gun, has once again wowed audiences with his charisma on the big screen.

However, the US Navy reportedly prohibited the Mission: Impossible star from operating the F-18 Super Hornet.

According to the newest rumours, the US Navy agreed to let the Top Gun: Maverick studio utilise F/A-18 Super Hornets for more than $11,000 per hour for the next picture, but Cruise and his co-stars were not permitted to touch the jets’ controls.

The Edge of Tomorrow star, who is known for his own stunts, wanted all of the actors playing pilots in the film to fly in one of the fighter planes so they could comprehend what it’s like to control an aircraft under the pressure of enormous gravitational forces.

Cruise, who flew a jet in the original Top Gun, was able to participate in several missions for the new film, but the Pentagon prohibits non-military personnel from controlling Defense Department equipment other than small arms in training scenarios, according to Pentagon entertainment media office chief Glen Roberts.

The actors were, however able to ride behind pilots after completing required training on how to eject from the jets in the event of an emergency and how to survive in the sea.
