Mighty Typhoon Yagi breaks 30-year record in Vietnam

HANOI: Typhoon Yagi has claimed more than 140 lives while causing destruction in Vietnam’s capital, Hanoi.

As per the reports, Typhoon Yagi — the strongest cyclone of this year — has unleashed destruction in Vietnam’s north. The reports mention the loss of more than 140 lives and the injury of hundreds, while the whereabouts of many remain unknown.

Most casualties happened as a result of mudslides and floods.

Following the cyclone, around 1.5 million people were affected by a power outage.

Around 50,000 people have been evacuated from the coastal areas of Vietnam.

Typhoon Yagi’s strength broke a 30-year record in Vietnam. Before making landfall in Vietnam, the typhoon had hit China and the Philippines, claiming 24 lives.
