Atiqa Odho, a well-known television and film actress, has urged for the screening of Pakistani dramas and films in Saudi Arabia once they have been dubbed into the local tongue to begin cultural interaction between the two brotherly nations.

She made the comments during a Meet & Greet event in Jeddah that was arranged by General Entertainment Authority adviser Nausheen Waseem. Media representatives and Pakistanis living abroad attended the occasion.

She added that Pakistan and Saudi Arabia have good bilateral relationships and suggested that the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting discuss this with the Saudi authorities. Odho claimed that the Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman and King Salman bin Abdul Aziz have given the Arab nation’s society a new look.

She claimed that the bright and educated performers and directors working in Pakistan’s drama and cinema industries are creating high-quality content. She emphasised the fact that Maula Jatt not only generated historically significant profits but also popularised Pakistani cinema over the globe, including in Saudi Arabia.

Odho asserted that journalists and performers were taking the initiative to introduce Pakistani culture to the rest of the world and urged the government to encourage them. It was his first visit to the kingdom, according to her, and it had produced results beyond her expectations. Additionally, she advised the Pakistani population to follow local rules in order to promote a favourable picture of their nation.

Nausheen Wasim, a Saudi national who also spoke at the event, said she used to make an effort to welcome Pakistani musicians and host events in their honour so that people in her country would learn more about the South Asian nation. She also expressed her gratitude to the Pakistan Journalists Forum in Saudi Arabia for its assistance in this matter.

At the celebration, the Pakistani actress also cut a cake to celebrate her birthday.

On Thursday, veteran actress Atiqa Odho has requested her fans and followers to pray for her friend Marina Khan’s speedy recovery from the deadly coronavirus.

Earlier, legendary actor and director Marina Khan had tested positive for the novel coronavirus. The Tanhaiyaan star made the announcement via her social media.

The 58-year old actress announced that she has been diagnosed with novel coronavirus and has isolated herself.

“It’s real. It’s out there,” said the actor in a video she uploaded on Instagram.

TV star Atiqa Odho acquitted in liquor recovery case after nine years

Justice-awaited, renowned television star Atiqa Odho got acquitted by a civil court in liquor recovery case after nine years.

According to the details, the court ruled that there was no evidence against actress Atiqa Odho.

This was the oldest case in the Rawalpindi civil courts which was pending adjudication, though there have been more than 170 hearings and more than 10 judges have been changed during the trial.

On June 4, 2011, Odho was stopped at Benazir International Airport when two bottles of foreign liquor were allegedly found in her bag while she was checking in for PIA’s Karachi-bound flight PK-301. The liquor was confiscated as per law and she was allowed to go.

At the time, Odho was secretary information of Pervez Musharraf’s All Pakistan Muslim League (APML). Iftikhar Chaudhry, who was CJP back then, took suo motu notice after the electronic media had flashed the news.

He asked the police and Customs officials to clarify why no case had been registered against her. Later, Customs officials sent a lawsuit to the Airport police station, which then registered a case against her under Section 3/4 of the Prohibition Order of 1979.

Three days later, the actress acquired interim bail from the court of Rawalpindi Additional Session Judge Iqbal Chadhar. Subsequently, the court restrained the police from arresting or harassing the artist.

Later, the police recorded her statement under Section 161 of the Court of Criminal Procedure (CRPC) and presented the charge sheet after 14 days due to pressure from the Supreme Court.

Later, after appearing in the case regularly for six months, the artist was then granted immunity from appearing before the court until the final verdict by Chadhar.
