Bollywood cinema’s legendary actor Dilip Kumar breathed his last at the age of 98 on July 7, 2021, at 7.30 am, leaving behind an ocean of fans mourning.

Dr. Jalil Parkar, the pulmonologist treating Dilip Kumar at Mumbai’s PD Hinduja Hospital confirmed the news of his death.

Let’s take a look at some of his best films from the past few decades.

Daag (1952)

Dilip Kumar won the first-ever award in the Best Actor category for his performance in this film. Produced and directed by Amiya Chakravarty, the film featured Dilip Kumar, Nimmi, and Lalita Pawar in lead roles.

Mughal-e-Azam (1960)

A historical drama in which he played the role of Prince Salim and brought a new dimension to the love scenes he enacted with Madhubala who played Anarkali. The iconic piece of cinema was helmed by K Asif and produced by Shapoorji Pallonji. The star cast includes Prithviraj Kapoor, Madhubala, Durga Khote, and Dilip Kumar in lead roles.

Naya Daur (1957)

The BR Chopra’s film got both commercial and critical success. Written by Akhtar Mirza, the film featured Dilip Kumar and Vyjayanthimala, with Ajit Khan and Jeevan in supporting roles.

Madhumati (1958)

The famous film by Bimal Roy starred Dilip Kumar and Vyjayantimala. It was one of the earliest films to deal with reincarnation and had a gothic noir feel to it.

Ganga Jamuna (1961)

This was the only film produced by Dilip Kumar. The story is set around an innocent man who is forced to become a dacoit. Dilip Kumar did perhaps one of his best roles in the film.

Ram Aur Shyam (1967)

After a bad spell at the box office, Dilip Kumar came back with a bang with the hit film Ram Aur Shyam.

Devdas (1955)

Based on the Saratchandra Chattopadhyay novella, the story is about a tragic lover played by Dilip Kumar. This is considered one of his best performances. Devdas was also ranked number 2 film on the University of Iowa’s List of Top 10 Bollywood Films by Corey K. Creekmur.

Shakti (1982)

It was notable for being the first and only film to feature veteran actors Dilip Kumar and Amitabh Bachchan together on screen. The film is regarded as director Ramesh Sippy’s best work and is considered as one of the greatest films in the history of cinema.

Mashaal (1984)

Vinod Kumar (Dilip Kumar) played a respected, law-abiding citizen who turns to crime for exacting revenge.

Karma (1986)

The film reunited Subhash Ghai and Dilip Kumar after the success of their last film together Vidhaata (1982). It was the first time Dilip Kumar was paired with Nutan.

Kriti Sanon requests media to not cover funeral after Dilip Kumar’s death

Indian actor Kriti Sanon has made a ‘humble request’ to the media and the paparazzi who are sharing visuals from Dilip Kumar‘s funeral.

Took to Instagram, she shared a story in which she urged the media to avoid covering celebrity funerals for it’s disturbing to see ‘videos of such a sensitive event with photographers talking casually in the background’.

“Is it necessary for media and paparazzi to cover someone’s funeral? A funeral is a very personal affair and media should let people mourn in peace without a camera flashing in their faces! It’s disturbing to see videos of such a sensitive event with photographers talking casually in the background.” Kriti stated.

“I urge the media to please not cover funerals and give the family and closed ones their privacy. Would you like such a personal loss being flashed all over? Lets change things a bit.. Lets put humanity before profession.” she further wrote.

On the work front, Kriti Sanon was last seen in Panipat in 2019. She has a number of projects in the pipeline, including Bachchan Pandey, Bhediya, and Adipurush.

Pakistani Celebrities pays heart touching tribute to late Dilip Kumar

Dilip Kumar passed away today morning at the age of 98 in Hinduja Hospital Mumbai. He was suffering from prolonged illness. As per the doctor Jalil Parkar, who was treating him, said, “He passed away due to prolonged illness at 7.30 am.”

Pakistani showbiz celebrities expressed their deep grief and sorrow over the demise of veteran Bollywood actor Dilip Kumar, who passed away at the age of 98.

Dilip Kumar laid to rest in Mumbai cemetery with full state honours

Legendary actor Dilip Kumar on Wednesday was buried with full state honours at Juhu Qabarastan in Mumbai, marking the end of an illustrious career as one of Indian cinema’s most loved icons.

The 98-year-old actor, who passed away following prolonged illness, was laid to rest around 4:45 PM in the presence of family, including actor wife Saira Banu.

He was honoured with a draping ceremony of the Indian flag during his funeral.

Dilip Kumar was given a gun salute, following which the police band paid him a tribute at the Juhu Qabrastan in Santacruz Mumbai.

While not more than 25-30 people were allowed inside the Qabrastan, the venue was packed with media and fans of the late star. The crowd, of nearly 100 people, was being controlled by the police.

As per the state funeral protocols, Kumar’s body was draped with the tricolor at his Pali Hill residence, before being moved to the burial ground.

More than 60 policemen were present at his residence. Adequate security measures were taken by the police to prevent people to enter the lane leading to Kumar’s house.

The actor had been battling ill health for the last few years, including advanced-stage prostate cancer and lung disease, and had been in and out of the hospital.
