FIA arrests IESCO officials on taking bribe

ISLAMABAD: Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) arrested the officials of Islamabad Electric Supply Company (IESCO) on accepting bribe from the field officers and recovered Rs 14.75 million from his possession.

The arrested persons included Audit Officer Zeeshan Ali, Assistant Audit Officer Nazar Hussain, Ishtiaq Ahmed, Jahangir Ahmed and Saqib Sagheer, said a press release issued here.

The officials were deputed by the Deputy Director Procurement and Coordination Lahore Office to carry out the audit of IESCO Operation Jhelum Circle and Regional Manager Transformer Workshop Islamabad.

The FIA team arrested the accused from GT Road, Gujar Khan and recovered the bribe money from them.

According to initial investigation, the accused received the said amount from the officials posted in the field.

The Anti-corruption Circle Islamabad has registered a case against the accused and more arrests are expected on identification of the arrested persons.

Court issues non-bailable arrest warrant for Moonis Elahi

LAHORE: The local court of Lahore has issued a non-bailable arrest warrant for Moonis Elahi, the son of former Punjab Chief Minister Pervez Elahi, on the anti-corruption application.

Judicial Magistrate Imran Abid issued a decision on the anti-corruption application. The court issued a non-bailable arrest warrant for Moonis Elahi in the Lahore Master Plan case.

Anti-corruption said in the application that Moonis Elahi is not joining the investigation and has gone into hiding.

According to anti-corruption, no progress is being made in the investigation due to the absconding of the accused.

In the petition, the anti-corruption requested that the arrest warrant of the accused be issued.

After the hearing, the court accepted the anti-corruption application.

Court extends physical remand of Pervaiz Elahi

LAHORE: The local court has extended the physical remand of former chief minister Punjab and Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf(PTI) President Pervaiz Elahi for 2 days.

The judicial magistrate of Lahore heard the case of corruption in Punjab Assembly recruitment against Pervaiz Elahi, in which anti-corruption brought the former chief minister before the court and requested a 12-day physical remand.

The anti-corruption officials told the court that Pervaiz Elahi needs further investigation, so the court should grant remand.

During the hearing, Pervaiz Elahi’s lawyer said that according to the supplement, Pervaiz Elahi went to his residence with the anti-corruption team and Pervaiz Elahi recovered Rs 4.1 million from the drawer in his bedroom. The supplement does not mention the time or the departure from the police station.

Court sends Khawar Maneka to jail on judicial remand

LAHORE: The Accountability Court on Wednesday sent Khawar Farid Maneka to jail in judicial remand who was arrested in the corruption case.

Senior Civil Judge, Abrar Ali Khan, heard the case and rejected a police request seeking an extension in the physical remand of Mankea.

Khawar Manika, who was arrested in the anti-corruption case, was presented in the accountability court after the 8-day physical remand.

The prosecution showed the marriage hall and 26 shops built on government land to the court through a laptop, while the prosecution team also presented the rent collection registers of the marriage hall and shops to the court.

The prosecution requested for another 5-day physical remand of Khawar Manika, which the court rejected and sent Khawar Manika to jail on judicial remand.

OKARA: Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf’s wife Bushra Bibi did not appear at the Anti-Corruption Establishment in a corruption case on Wednesday.

Deputy Director of Anti-Corruption Okara Malik Taswar Hussain said that Bushra Bibi was kept waiting in the office till 4 o’clock.

Malik Taswar Hussain said that Bushra Bibi has to appear in the Lahore High Court on Thursday in the same case.

Deputy Director Anti-Corruption Okara had issued a notice to the former first lady to appear today. A notice by the department was posted outside his house.

Earlier, the anti-corruption spokesperson said in a statement that Bushra Bibi was summoned on July 5 on allegations of corruption in development works in her village. She is accused of illegally awarding contracts to favored contractors.

According to the spokesperson, Bushra Bibi has been bound to appear before the inquiry committee and give a statement.
