Prime Minister Imran Khan won the ‘Vote of Confidence’ by gaining 178 votes in the National Assembly (NA) here on Saturday, after the major Senate upset which termed PPP’s Yousaf Raza Gilani as the winner for the general seat against PTI’s Hafeez Sheikh.
National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser announced the results and declared Prime Minister Imran Khan as the winner by securing 178 votes and successfully gained the ‘Vote of Confidence’.
Soon after the victory of the ruling government, PTI has filed a petition and demanded the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to not issue the notification to Yousaf Raza Gilani, declaring him the winner for the Senate’s general seat.
The PTI lawmakers have filed the petition based on a video clip of Ali Haider Gilani, which surfaced online just before the Senate Elections on March 3.
An alleged video of Ali Haider Gilani, the son of former Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani had brewed a political storm in Pakistan.
In the video, Ali Haider Gilani was seen and heard about buying votes from PTI MPA.
However, the petitioners claim, “Ali Haider Gilani kept bribing members of the National Assembly.”
They further added, “Yousaf Raza Gilani’s notification should be stopped till action on the video scandal is complete.”
Moreover, a petition regarding Haider Gilani’s disqualification from the Punjab Assembly has also been filed.
