FBR blocks 9,000 non-filers SIMs

ISLAMABAD:  More than 9,000 SIMs of non-filers have been blocked on the instructions of the Federal Bureau of Revenue (FBR).

FBR spokesman said a meeting was held with the telephone companies in which the FBR informed the mobile companies about the decision to ban SIMs.

The spokesperson said that the decision to block the mobile phone SIMs of non-filers is the decision of the Parliament, the government’s decision must be implemented in any case.

On the other hand, Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has distanced itself from the issue of blocking SIMs.

It should be noted that 3500 SIMs of non-filers were closed yesterday as well.

Spokesperson FBR had said that around 3500 SIMs were blocked by two telecom companies, but the SIMs of the citizens who file the return will be restored immediately.

The spokesperson of FBR had said that a telecom company has taken stay-order from the Islamabad High Court.

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has opposed Federal Board of Revenue’s proposal to block mobile SIMs of non-tax return filers.

The PTA has written to the FBR saying that it is not legally bound to implement the SIM blocking order and that SIM blocking is not compatible with our framework.

The PTA said in the letter that only 27 percent of women in Pakistan use sims drawn in their own names and the remaining women and children use sims in the names of male family members.

PTA wrote in the letter that banning SIMs will also affect e-commerce and transactions.

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has said that it has received the Federal Board of Revenue’s letter regarding blocking the SIMs of those who do not submit income tax returns.

Officials of PTI said that FBR’s letter was received through email on Monday evening and they will review the letter and take a decision on it.

It should be remembered that the FBR had issued an income tax general order to block the mobile phones of more than 66,000 people.

According to FBR, the income of these persons is eligible to file income tax returns, but these persons are not filing despite being able to file income tax returns. These persons are not included in the FBR active taxpayer list, so they file income tax returns. Mobile phone connections of non-users can be terminated at any time.

Earlier, the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has identified 666,671 tax defaulters.

FBR has issued an Income Tax General Order to ban the mobile phones of more than 0.6million people. FBR has identified more than 606,000 people for blocking their mobile phones.

The income of more than 506,000 people can file income tax returns, but these people are not filing income tax returns despite being able to file them

FBR said that these people are not included in the FBR Active Tax Payer list, and mobile phone connections of non-filers of income tax returns can be stopped at any time. FBR said that instructions have been issued to PTA to close the SIM of tax defaulters.

All telecom companies have also been instructed to block the mobile phone SIM of tax defaulters and telecom companies and PTAs have been required to submit the implementation report by May 15.

KARACHI: The Sindh High Court(SHC) has ordered the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) to restore the suspended social media site X across the country.

In the statement released by the court, it has been said that the X service should be restored without any interruption or shutdown.

The petitioner’s lawyer said that the Minister of Interior has stated that the directive to close X has not been issued. The Prime Minister, the Interior Minister, and the Minister of IT are using X by installing a VPN and telling the nation that X is not closed.

Chief Justice of Sindh High Court Aqeel Ahmed Abbasi inquired about who closed the sites and who ordered to keep them closed.

The petitioner’s lawyer said that only the PTA has the authority to shut down the X, to keep the service slow.

KARACHI: The Sindh High Court(SHC) has ordered the immediate removal of obscene content from all social media platforms.

Sindh High Court Chief Justice Aqeel Abbasi heard the petition against obscene content on social media, during which the petitioner’s lawyer said in his arguments that obscenity is being promoted in the name of family vlogging.

During the hearing, Pakistan Telecommunication Authority’s counsel told the court that PTA does not have the authority to remove content on Facebook, YouTube, or any other website, and to remove objectionable content, it has to write to the concerned authorities.

Meanwhile, PTA’s counsel sought time to submit the reply, on which the court said that obscene content should be removed from Facebook, Tik Tok, and other apps, whatever the order, the orders should be fully implemented and all objectionable content should be removed from websites.

The court ordered to take immediate action against immoral content on social media and to prepare a complete chart and submit a report.

JIT forms to probe social media campaign against SC judges

ISLAMABAD: The Ministry of Interior has formed a six-member Joint Investigation Team (JIT) to prevent the misleading campaign on social media against Supreme Court judges.

According to the Home Ministry notification, the Additional Director General  Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) ‘s Cyber ​​Crime Wing will be the convener of the JIT. The representatives of Intelligence Bureau(IB), Inter-Services Intelligence(ISI), Deputy Inspector General(DIG) Islamabad Police, representative of the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority(PTA) and any other co-opted member.

The notification states that the representative of IB and ISI included in the JIT will be a grade 20 officer.

The notification stated that JIT will identify the accused and bring them to book and give recommendations to prevent such incidents in the future.

The notification states that the JIT will trace out nefarious campaigners against Supreme Court judges and produce challans against the nefarious campaigners.

The JIT will submit a preliminary report to the Home Ministry within 15 days.

It should be noted that the lawyers’ organizations of the country have demanded action against those campaigning on social media against Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faez Isa.

ISLAMABAD: The Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication has started preparations for the launch of 5G.

Sources say that Caretaker Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication Dr. Umar Saif has issued instructions to Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and related officers regarding the issuance of 5G.

According to IT Ministry sources, the 5G auction could fetch millions of dollars to the government, while the spectrum auction is likely to take place after 10 months.

According to the sources, Pakistan’s mobile companies are currently using around 367 megahertz (MHz) of spectrum, while the spectrum available through reforming will be auctioned to more than 600 megahertz(MHz).

Sources say that the spectrum auction will also provide prompt redressal of network-related complaints of users.
