Shahid Khaqan targeted PM, says ‘want to register FIR against false case bookings’

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Shahid Khaqan Abbasi Monday said that the NAB cases have left behind and now treason cases being registered.

Shahid Khaqan Abbasi appeared before the court in the illegal appointment of MD Pakistan State Oil (PSO) case.

Speaking to media officials, the former prime minister said, “If a case can be registered against us than a case on violation of Article 62 and 63 and the constitution can also be registered against them.”

“Our prime minister is unaware about the prices of wheat flour and sugar and the issue of registration of a case against politicians,” Abbasi said.

“We didn’t forget October 12, at that time we were jailed, today we are visiting courts,” Abbasi further said.

He said the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) is being used to pressurize politicians. “NAB failed to even describe the charges in the high court,” PML-N leader said.

The courts have given their observations about NAB, “Either you run Pakistan or NAB,” the former prime minister said.

“I also want to register an FIR against those booking people in false cases,” he added.

Criticizing the federal government over the islands row with Sindh government, opposition party’s leader said, “They are now promulgating ordinances to illegally occupy islands”.

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) senior leader Ahsan Iqbal on Saturday said a new wave of NAB action against PML-N has been launched and accused the government of planning pre-poll rigging in the upcoming general election in Gilgit-Baltistan.

While addressing a news conference in Lahore, Ahsan Iqbal said that PML-N in the first four years of its tenure set a world record by generating 11,000 MW of electricity. Economic growth had reached 6% during PML-N tenure, but today Pakistan has become the weakest economy in South Asia with a negative growth rate.

The former interior minister said that Pakistan is facing serious threats today but government ministers are acting irresponsibly and giving rise to the crisis with their statements. The PML-N leader also said that every word and sentence of PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif is important for the party and is considered political doctrine.

Attempts are being made to suppress voices of the opposition with threats, he added. He also claimed that PTI was won the election through the failure of RTS system and the majority of the opposition was turned into a minority.

Senate to take up FATF bills in joint session today

Pakistan President Dr. Arif Alvi has summoned the joint sitting of parliament today to vote on bills related to Financial Action Task Force’s (FATF) obligations.

According to the details, the joint session of the National Assembly and the Senate will take up the Anti-Money Laundering (Second Amendment) bill and Islamabad Capital Territory Waqf Properties Bill to meet the requirements of the FATF for passage.

Last month, the Senate rejected two FATF-related bills. Adviser to the Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan on Parliamentary Affairs Dr. Babar Awan also moved a motion on Monday this week, under Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business of the House to refer two bills to the joint sitting as provided by the Constitution. The motion was adopted by the House.

Furthermore, the joint session is scheduled to meet at the Parliament House at 4 pm today.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Imran Khan has convened a meeting of combined parliamentary parties of the ruling coalition to discuss the strategy for the important legislation.

Prime Minister Imran Khan has directed the lawmakers to ensure their presence at the meeting to be held at 02:30 pm at the Parliament House.

Senate Rejected Bills

Let it be known that on August 25, the opposition-ruled Senate had rejected the bills earlier adopted by the NA, as two major opposition parties – the Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) – declined to support them.

The two parties insisted that the Leader of the House should withdraw his remarks against their leadership and the laid-down procedure concerning the bills be followed.

Leader of Opposition in the Punjab Assembly Hamza Shahbaz’s medical reports has been presented before an accountability court of Lahore today (Monday).

The accountability court is hearing money laundering case against Shehbaz Sharif family.

According to PML-N leader Atta Tarar, Hamza Shehbaz tested positive for the coronavirus on Sunday.

AC Judge Jawadul Hassan conducted the hearing, in which PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif appeared before the court.

Doctor Muhammad Afzal Khan of Kot Lakhpat Jail presented medical reports of Hamza Shehbaz and stated that the PML-N stalwart will undergo another coronavirus test.

Another accused in the case, Javeria Ali, daughter of Shehbaz Sharif, in her plea stated that she met with her brother, a day ago in the jail and requested the court to grant her exemption from court appearance as her brother has contracted deadly COVID-19.
