Veteran entertainer Zeenat Aman in her new Instagram post discussed her affection for London. The city is her “second home,” she says. She also explained why her followers might not frequently see her promoting brands via her posts as frequently as other Bollywood celebrities. The 71-year-old wrote, “Oxford Street has changed over the last 45 years, but not nearly as much as I have.” She also showed fans a picture of herself walking the streets of the UK capital. Showing the boys my old haunts while I’m in London has been so much fun. The city served as a sort of second home for a number of years, with personal visits and filming there.

“When I was in my twenties, I would rush to this street to peruse the Selfridges aisles. I adored their summerwear, which at the time were unavailable in India. Therefore, I would purchase multiple colors of an outfit I liked when I found one! “It would be time for further retail therapy at Harrods once my shopping bags were in hand,” she said as she took a trip back in time.

The UN has warned that a British draught law aimed at stopping migrants entering illegally on small boats will amount to an asylum ban, and has called for “more humane” solutions instead.

The UN refugee agency expressed “deep concern” about plans to give the British interior minister a new legal duty to deport all illegal migrants, such as those crossing the Channel from France in inflatable boats.

“The legislation, if passed, would amount to an asylum ban – extinguishing the right to seek refugee protection in the United Kingdom for those who arrive irregularly, no matter how genuine and compelling their claim may be, and with no consideration of their individual circumstances,” UNHCR said in a statement.

The bill would deny asylum seekers in need of protection and would “even deny them the opportunity to put forward their case. This would be a clear breach of the Refugee Convention”.

“Most people fleeing war and persecution are simply unable to access the required passports and visas. There are no safe and ‘legal’ routes available to them,” UNHCR said.

“Denying them access to asylum on this basis undermines the very purpose for which the Refugee Convention was established.”

According to UNHCR, based on the most recent data from the British Interior Ministry, the vast majority of those arriving in Britain in small boats across the Channel would be accepted as refugees if their claims were assessed.

“Branding refugees as undeserving based on the mode of arrival distorts these fundamental facts,” it said.

UNHCR said it had presented London with solid, actionable proposals for fast, fair and efficient case processing and would work with Britain to expand safe, regular pathways for refugees to reach the UK, but said these were limited and “can never substitute for access to asylum”.

The Geneva-based agency urged the British government and all parliamentarians “to reconsider the bill and instead pursue more humane and practical policy solutions”.

UK: Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky will pay an unexpected visit to London on Wednesday, according to Downing Street, at a time when Kiev is pushing the West to deploy more arms and military help to oppose Russian advances.

According to UK sources, Zelensky will meet Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and address Parliament alongside Ukrainian troops being trained by British forces.

The president’s travel to London is just his second outside of his country since Russia invaded Ukraine nearly a year ago, following his December visit to Washington, DC.

The trip comes at a time when Zelensky has been desperately seeking military assistance from Western friends, as Ukrainian officials warn that Moscow is planning a spring onslaught.

Britain stated on Wednesday that it would provide additional military weapons to Kyiv to help repel a potential Russian spring onslaught. Sunak stated that the UK would provide more training to Ukrainian fighter pilots and marines, as well as a long-term investment in Ukraine’s military.

The United Kingdom will begin training Ukrainian pilots on NATO-standard fighter jets. This will be Ukraine’s first official training program on Western fighter aircraft. However, there was no discussion of arming Ukraine with Western fighter planes, as Zelensky has been advocating.

Longer range capabilities

The UK also said it will provide Ukraine with “longer range capabilities,” without going into details.

“The Prime Minister will also offer to provide Ukraine with longer range capabilities,” a Downing Street statement read. “This will disrupt Russia’s ability to continually target Ukraine’s civilian and critical national infrastructure and help relieve pressure on Ukraine’s frontlines.”

NATO countries recently responded to Kyiv’s request for main battle tanks to reinforce its military, which had previously relied on Soviet-era tanks.

In mid-January, the United Kingdom was the first to announce that it would send 12 Challenger 2 tanks to Ukraine. Following weeks of pressure, Germany and the United States announced that they would supply Leopard 2 and M1 Abrams tanks, respectively.

Sunak said: “President Zelensky’s visit to the UK is a testament to his country’s courage, determination and fight, and a testament to the unbreakable friendship between our two countries.

“Since 2014, the UK has provided vital training to Ukrainian forces, allowing them to defend their country, protect their sovereignty and fight for their territory.

“I am proud that today we will expand that training from soldiers to marines and fighter jet pilots, ensuring Ukraine has a military able to defend its interests well into the future.”
