- Courteney Cox is officially set to return for Scream 7.
- Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega are stepping away.
- Christopher Landon will no longer be directing the film.
Courteney Cox is officially set to return for the highly anticipated seventh installment of the Scream franchise, amidst significant cast changes.
Following controversies and scheduling conflicts, stars Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega are stepping away from the series, resulting in a dramatic shift in the cast lineup. Only Jasmin Savoy Brown and Mason Gooding are expected to reprise their roles, leaving Cox’s character, Gale Weathers, as the franchise’s longest-standing figure.
At the Inc. 5000 Conference in Palm Desert, Cox humorously remarked, “I’m the longest-running Scream queen, so I guess I can’t stop now,” confirming her participation in Scream VII. The fate of Hayden Panettiere’s character, who returned for Scream VI, remains unclear.
In addition to cast changes, the franchise is experiencing shifts behind the scenes. With Christopher Landon no longer directing, Kevin Williamson, the original screenwriter, will take the reins for Scream 7, which is scheduled for release in 2026.
Neve Campbell also announced her return as Sydney Prescott for Scream VII, after missing the previous installment due to salary disputes. Fans are eager to see how the series evolves with these changes.
