Mohsin Naqvi orders new IG to wipe out crime from Islamabad

ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Interior Mohsin Naqvi on Saturday directed the new Inspector General of Police Islamabad to improve law and order situation and crackdown against criminals in the capital.

In a high level meeting here, Mohsin Naqvi assigned a task to the police officials to conduct a strong crackdown against the gangs involved in the sale and purchase of drugs and apprehend also the drug mafia with the use of modern technology.

He said that drug paddlers are the enemies of the future of Pakistan and thus strictest action be taken against them while the surveillance outside educational institutions also be increased to stop the sale of intoxicants including ice and arrest the sellers.

The new Inspector General of Police Ali Nasir Rizvi gave a detailed briefing to the minister interior about the law and order situation in the meeting which was also attended by all DIGs and CTOs.

The minister ordered to ensure foolproof security of foreign nationals living in Islamabad and to establish a special protection force for the security of foreign nationals in Islamabad while special attention should be given to the security of all important offices and places including the red zone and diplomatic enclave, he added.

He also ordered an effective action against beggar mafia and professional beggars in the city roaming freely in the city.

The minister asked the police to ensure 100% registration of First Information Report (FIR) on the complaints of citizens while using delaying tactics or denying registration of FIR will initiate an action against concerned police station and SHO, he warned.

The minister also directed IG police to immediately deal with promotion cases of capital Police saying that the promotion is the employee’s right that he should get on time because promotion will improve morale of police force.

The minster ensured the police officials that the steps will be taken to bring the salaries of Islamabad Police at par with the Punjab Police while ordered to fill the vacant posts in Islamabad police through fair rand competitive recruitment process.

ISLAMABAD: The new Inspector General (IG) of the federal capital Islamabad, Ali Nasir Rizvi, took charge of his post.

IG Islamabad Ali Nasir Rizvi took charge of the post 22 days after the notification was issued, the notification of his appointment as IG Islamabad was issued on March 30.

On the other hand, DPO Sargodha Kamran Faisal has been posted as DIG Operations Lahore. The Punjab government has also issued a notification for the appointment of Kamran Faisal.

There was a conflict between the Ministry of Interior and the Punjab government on the appointment of Ali Nasir Rizvi as IG, in which the Punjab government had apologized for giving important officers to the federal government and refused to relieve the officer nominated for IG Islamabad.

On the issue of appointment of IG Islamabad, matters have been settled between the Ministry of Interior and the Punjab Government.

The newly appointed IG Islamabad Ali Nasir Rizvi has been relieved by the Punjab government. Ali Nasir Rizvi is currently posted as DIG Operations Lahore.

ISLAMABAD: The Oil Tankers Owners Association (OTOA) stopped the fuel supply in Rawalpindi and Islamabad.

According to the Oil Tankers Owners Association, the delivery of petroleum products will also remain suspended in Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Kashmir, while the supply of petroleum products to airports has also been stopped.

The association said that Pakistan State Oil (PSO) officials have introduced a new automated system of petrol filling, PSO officials and DC Islamabad have informed about the concerns, and filling demand should be met under a metered system.

In this regard, Chairman All Pakistan Oil Tankers Owners Association Mir Shams Shahwani has said that the country and the nation are with the government in this critical situation, and have asked to continue the supply to all the depots.

Mir Shams Shahwani demanded that action and a case be registered against the blackmailers.

Strong earthquake hits Islamabad, other cities

ISLAMABAD: Earthquake tremors were felt in various cities of the country, including Islamabad, Punjab, and cities of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

RAWALPINDI: Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) has recovered 341 kg drugs and arrested four drug peddlers across the country.

ANF Spokesman, informed that in an operation 4.4 kg hashish was recovered from the possession of an accused resident of Multan arrested from F-11 sector, Islamabad.

In another operation, 156.6 kg hashish was recovered from a vehicle intercepted near Lakpass Toll Plaza Quetta. Charras was concealed in secret cavities of the vehicle. A resident of Musa Khel was arrested during the operation.

In third operation, 180 kg hashish was recovered from a house in Orakzai. Charras was stored in the house to smuggle to different cities of Punjab. Five ecstasy tablets were recovered from a local resident netted near an educational institution in DI Khan. The accused during interrogation confessed his involvement in supplying drugs to the students of Gomal University and various other educational institutions.

In fifth operation at Jinnah International Airport, 3020 intoxicated tablets concealed in a passenger’s trolley bag were recovered. The accused, a resident of Karachi, was leaving for Madinah by flight number G-9543.

KARACHI: Pakistan State Oil (PSO) has once again stopped the fuel supply to Pakistan International Airlines(PIA).

According to sources, PSO has stopped fuel supply to Pakistan Airlines due to non-payment of daily payments. The PIA owes PSO Rs 26 billion.

Sources say that many domestic and international flights of PIA have been canceled and delayed due to the non-availability of fuel.

According to sources, 20 PIA flights from Karachi, Lahore, and Islamabad have been canceled while PIA flight PK 215 from Karachi to Dubai has been delayed.

Sources say that Karachi to Lahore flight PK 306, Karachi to Peshawar flight PK 350, Karachi to Gwadar, and Karachi to Islamabad flight PK 370 are also canceled.

According to sources, PIA flight 310 from Karachi to Quetta and Karachi to Rahim Yar Khan flight have also been canceled.
