Nation feels proud of Nooh Dastagir and Shah Hussain for claiming gold and bronze medal in CWG 2022

BIRMINGHAM: The nation felt upset after the exit, but later, Nooh Dastagir Butt won the gold medal by lifting 405 kilograms (173 kg in snatch and 232 kg in clean and jerk) and Shah Hussain Shah won the bronze medal in judo by beating South Africa’s Thomas-Laszlo Breytenbach in the men’s-90 kg event.

The 22nd edition of the Commonwealth Games (CWG) 2022 is in full swing in Birmingham. Players from 72 nations are participating in the games, ranging from indoor to outdoor sports. The event started on July 28 and will end on August 8. Pakistan suffered a setback after losing in the hockey group stages, and the women’s cricket team returned home early after failing to win any games.

Pakistan Armed Forces also felt proud of the athletes who competed for Pakistan and won medals at the Commonwealth Games (CWG) 2022. In a tweet, Director General Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) congratulates Nooh Dastagir Butt for winning the Gold Medal and Shah Hussain Shah for winning the Bronze Medal.

On the official Twitter account of DG ISPR, it states, “Congratulations from Pakistan Armed Forces to Nooh Dastagir Butt for winning Gold Medal & Shah Hussain Shah for winning Bronze Medal in Commonwealth Games making Pakistan proud. Pakistan 🇵🇰 Zindabad ”

According to the report, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced to reward Rs5 Million for Nooh Dastaghir Butt for winning the gold medal and Rs1 Million for Shah Hussain shah for bagging a bronze medal.

The rivalry between the South Asian neighbors remains constant, be it in sports, showbiz, politics or any other sector.

However, individuals on both sides of the border often seem to forget the tension and express good wishes and love for each other.

Athlete Neeraj Chopra, who recently won a gold medal for India in the javelin throw at the Tokyo Olympics, has also shown sheer professionalism by ignoring the ongoing tensions between the two countries.

In an interview with Indian media, Neeraj said, “It would have been better if Arshad had also won a medal, it would have made a name for Asia.”

Neeraj does not engage in the ongoing rivalry between the two countries in sports competitions. He said that all this goes on in cricket but it is not right to do all this in the Olympics.

The day after the Olympics final, the Indian and Pakistani athletes met in the dining hall before the closing ceremony. They shook hands and wished each other well.

In this regard, Neeraj said, “Arshad smiled and congratulated me and then I also told him that you look strong in your national dress.”

Neeraj said that Arshad played well and I wished him well for the future.

It may be recalled that Neeraj from India won a gold medal in the javelin throw at the Tokyo Olympics while Arshad from Pakistan secured the fifth position, nevertheless, qualified for the Olympics without any back up from the Pakistan Olympic Association.

Who is Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem?

Arshad Nadeem born on January 2, 1997, is a Pakistani athlete specializing in the javelin throw. He represents WAPDA in domestic competition. In Dec 2019, he established a new South Asian Games record in the Javelin throw with a distance of 86.29 m, thus securing direct qualification to the 2020 Summer Olympics.

Arshad Nadeem had previously won four national championships and set three national records, but 2019 proved to be his most successful year yet.

Arshad Nadeem belongs to Mian Channu, a small city in Khanewal District, Punjab.

He is the 3rd oldest among five brothers in a Punjabi family. Arshad was an exceptionally versatile athlete from his early school years. Though he dabbled in all the sports on offer in his school cricket, badminton, football, and athletics, his passion was cricket and he soon found himself playing it at district level tape-ball tournaments. Upon entering grade seven in school, Arshad caught the eye of Rasheed Ahmad Saqi during an athletics competition. Saqi had a history of developing sportspeople in the division.

Nadeem was one of six competitors to break the automatic qualification standard with a throw of 85.16 meters, finishing behind India’s Neeraj Chopra and Germany’s Johannes Vetter in the Javelin Throw final.
