Israel intensifies assault on Gaza city, killing 78 across the enclave

Israel has escalated its military campaign in Gaza City, killing at least 78 Palestinians across the besieged enclave since dawn, according to Palestinian officials.

Among the victims were 32 individuals reportedly searching for food, amid what rights groups are calling a worsening humanitarian crisis.

On Sunday, shelling near al-Quds Hospital ignited fires in tents sheltering displaced families. According to the Palestinian Civil Defence, at least five people were killed and three injured after a residential apartment was struck in the Remal neighbourhood.

Ismail al-Thawabta, director of Gaza’s Government Media Office, accused the Israeli military of deploying “explosive robots” in densely populated areas.

In a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), al-Thawabta said that more than 80 such devices have been detonated in civilian neighborhoods over the past three weeks. He described the tactics as part of a “scorched-earth policy” that has razed homes and endangered lives.

“Despite the destruction and starvation caused by the Israeli assault, more than one million Palestinians in Gaza City and the north refuse to submit to the policy of forced displacement and ethnic cleansing,” he stated.

Footage shared on social media and verified by Al Jazeera captured the aftermath of an Israeli aerial strike in the Sabra neighbourhood in southern Gaza City. The video, posted by Palestinian journalist Faiz Osama, shows a child with a leg injury screaming in pain, while a man lies motionless nearby with an apparent head wound. Smoke can be seen rising from the rubble in the background.

The Israeli military has yet to comment on the latest claims, but previous statements have emphasized the goal of dismantling Hamas infrastructure in Gaza. However, growing international concern over civilian casualties and mass displacement has intensified calls for an immediate ceasefire and humanitarian access.

The current offensive follows nearly a year of conflict in Gaza, where over 38,000 Palestinians have been killed, according to local health authorities. Aid agencies warn that food, water, and medical supplies are nearing total depletion as bombardments continue.

Israel intensifies airstrikes in Gaza, 16 Palestinians killed

Cairo: Israeli forces escalated their bombardment of Gaza on Thursday, killing at least 16 Palestinians and wounding dozens more, according to local reports. The strikes targeted areas in the southern region of the enclave, including a renewed offensive on Gaza City.

According to the Israeli military, the current operations are part of an effort to dismantle Hamas infrastructure and regain control in areas previously evacuated by Israeli forces. Despite warnings from international agencies about civilian casualties, the strikes continued into densely populated neighborhoods.

One hospital in Khan Yunis reportedly came under fire, adding to the growing toll on medical facilities throughout the Gaza Strip. Medical staff at Nasser Hospital said 11 of the 16 fatalities were killed in airstrikes and that many of the injured arrived in critical condition.

Residents in Gaza City described the latest round of shelling as some of the most intense since the start of the war. “The bombing didn’t stop for hours,” said one local resident.

The International Committee of the Red Cross confirmed that 66 wounded individuals were admitted to the European Hospital in Khan Yunis over a 24-hour period, including four people who were declared dead on arrival.

In addition to military targets, humanitarian efforts have also been disrupted. Aid distribution centers were reportedly hit, and the UN has warned of a worsening crisis in food and medical supplies.

Hamas disputes Israeli account of deadly strike on Gaza’s Nasser hospital

Hamas disputes Israeli account of deadly strike on Gaza’s Nasser hospital

Gaza City: Hamas has publicly challenged the Israeli military’s account of a deadly airstrike on Nasser Hospital in southern Gaza, which killed 21 people, including journalists, medics, and rescue workers.

The group says none of the victims were affiliated with the Palestinian movement, contradicting Israel’s claim that six Hamas operatives were among the dead.

The Israeli military stated the strike targeted a Hamas-operated surveillance camera monitoring Israeli troop movements, asserting that six Hamas fighters were killed in the operation. However, Hamas claims at least two of the individuals named by Israel were killed at different times and locations — one reportedly in al-Mawasi, far from the hospital in Khan Younis.

The attack occurred Monday and was captured in part by a live Reuters feed, which abruptly cut out as Israeli forces launched the first strike. Reuters cameraman Hussam al-Masri was killed instantly.

A second strike hit minutes later, killing rescue workers and four more journalists who had rushed to the scene: Ahmed Abu Aziz, Mariam Abu Daqqa, Mohammad Salama, and Moaz Abu Taha.

Human rights organizations have condemned the incident as a “double-tap” strike — a tactic involving an initial attack followed by a second targeting first responders — which they argue amounts to a war crime. Global criticism has mounted over what many see as Israel’s increasing use of indiscriminate force in Gaza.

Palestinian journalists among 14 killed in Israeli attack on hospital

Palestinian journalists among 14 killed in Israeli attack on hospital

Gaza: At least 14 people, including three Palestinian journalists, were killed in an Israeli airstrike on a hospital in southern Gaza, according to local health authorities.

The latest attack comes amid Israel’s intensified military campaign to seize full control of Gaza City, prompting a mass displacement of nearly one million Palestinians toward the south.

Medical workers at the targeted facility reported overwhelming casualties and warned of worsening conditions, particularly for children suffering from starvation. Doctors say they are powerless to treat the growing number of malnourished patients, blaming an Israeli-imposed blockade that has resulted in what they call a “man-made famine.”

Escalation in Zeitoun and Sabra:

The Israeli army has significantly escalated its ground and aerial offensive in the Zeitoun and Sabra neighborhoods of Gaza City since August 6. According to the Palestinian Civil Defence, more than 1,000 buildings have been completely destroyed in the area, with hundreds of civilians feared trapped under the rubble.

“The ongoing shelling and blocked access routes are preventing many rescue and aid operations,” the Civil Defence said in a statement on Sunday. “There are grave concerns about the continued incursion of Israeli forces into Gaza City, at a time when field crews lack the capacity to deal with the intensity of the ongoing Israeli attacks.”

Emergency responders say they are receiving continuous reports of missing persons but are unable to respond due to the security situation. Hospitals, already operating beyond capacity, are struggling to handle the influx of injured civilians.

No Safe Haven:

“There is no safe area in the Gaza Strip, whether in the north or south, where shelling continues to target civilians in their homes, shelters, and even in their displacement camps,” the Civil Defence statement added.

Israeli tanks have entered the Sabra neighborhood in recent days, part of a broader strategy to fully occupy Gaza City. The military push is driving a massive internal displacement, with close to 1 million people forced to flee toward the southern regions of the besieged enclave.

Cross-Border Escalation in Yemen:

In a related development, Houthi forces in Yemen reported that Israeli airstrikes on the capital, Sanaa, killed at least six people and wounded 86 others. The strikes reportedly targeted the presidential palace and multiple energy facilities.
