Online registration for Hajj pilgrims from 58 countries is now available

Hajj
  • Saudi Arabia has unveiled an e-platform.
  • The e-platform will assist the entrance of Muslim pilgrims from 58 countries.
  • There will be no restrictions on the number of pilgrims.

Cairo: Saudi Arabia has unveiled an e-platform to assist the entrance of Muslim pilgrims from 58 countries for this year’s Hajj, according to local media.

As part of the kingdom’s early attempts to ease procedures for the 2017 Hajj season, the Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah announced the establishment of the hajj.nusuk.sa website for pilgrims from Europe, the Americas, and Australia.

The government announced that those pilgrims might register through the portal beginning Wednesday.

According to the ministry, the new facility allows pilgrims from these countries to apply, make bookings, and make e-payments, as well as select packages of Hajj-related services such as housing, catering, flights, guiding, and transportation.

France, Germany, the United States, the United Kingdom, Italy, Brazil, Spain, Canada, the Netherlands, Belgium, Austria, Australia, Bulgaria, Argentina, Greece, Georgia, Switzerland, Cyprus, Denmark, Venezuela, Ukraine, Norway, Trinidad and Tobago, Finland, Colombia, Ireland, Romania, Croatia, New Zealand, Serbia, Portugal, Poland, Hungary, Panama, Mexico, Chile, Peru, Cuba, Guatemala, Uruguay, and Nicaragua are among the countries covered by the platform.

Registration started

Saudi Arabia started registration for Muslims residing within the kingdom to enroll for this year’s Hajj ceremonies last month.

Saudi authorities have stated that there will be no restrictions on the number of pilgrims from around the world for the 2018 Hajj season, reversing previous restrictions imposed in the previous two years as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Saudi Arabia has reduced the number of Muslims permitted to conduct the Hajj ceremonies in the last two years in order to avoid the spread of COVID-19. In the pre-pandemic era, approximately 2.5 million Muslims would perform Hajj each year.

Muslims who are physically and financially capable of performing Hajj must do so at least once in their lifetime.

Saudi Arabia boosts oil prices for march

Saudi Arabia
  • The company’s flagship Arab Light grade was raised to $2 a barrel over the regional benchmark.
  • A  20-cent increase over the previous month’s pricing.
  • This will be the first increase in the grade since September.

Saudi Arabia suddenly boosted oil prices for its primary Asian market, as well as for clients in the United States and Europe.

The decisions came despite a 7% drop in crude prices this year, as rising interest rates in the United States and Europe offset expectations about a comeback in Chinese demand following the end of coronavirus lockdowns.

Saudi Aramco, the state-owned oil company, raised the majority of the pricing for petroleum that will be exported to Asia in March. The company’s flagship Arab Light grade was raised to $2 a barrel over the regional benchmark, a 20-cent increase over the previous month’s pricing.

It’s the first increase for the grade since September, and it contradicts a Bloomberg poll of dealers and refiners, which projected a 20-cent drop.

The kingdom boosted all European prices by $2 per barrel, and most US prices by 30 cents.

Many OPEC members have recently expressed optimism about China, which is likely to be the single most important factor influencing oil price movements this year.

Haitham Al Ghais, the group’s secretary-general, expressed optimism about China. And the director of Kuwait’s national energy company claimed to Bloomberg that consumption in the world’s biggest crude importer was already on the rise and that it “is not a dead-cat bounce”.

According to Goldman Sachs Group Inc., Brent will rise back above $100 per barrel in the third quarter as China completely reopens its economy, citing low stockpiles and spare capacity among producers. Morgan Stanley has made a similar prediction.

Saudi Caution

Nonetheless, Saudi Arabia’s energy minister, Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman, stated on Saturday that the country will proceed with caution in increasing oil production.

“I will believe it when I see it and then take action,” Prince Abdulaziz said, referring to higher oil demand globally.

Saudi Arabia is the world’s largest producer of oil. It exports over 60% of its crude supplies to Asia under long-term contracts, with pricing evaluated monthly. The top four buyers are China, Japan, South Korea, and India. Other Arabian Gulf producers, including as Iraq and Kuwait, tend to carefully follow its activities.

Saudi Arabia to remain cautious on oil output

oil
  • The energy minister reaffirmed that it will be careful about increasing oil production.
  • Analysts predict that increased demand will cause prices to rise soon.
  • Alliance’s market-monitoring committee advised maintaining oil output at current levels.

Saudi Arabia‘s energy minister reaffirmed that the country will be careful about increasing oil production, despite the fact that numerous prominent analysts predict that increased demand will cause prices to rise soon.

“I will believe it when I see it and then take action,” Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman said in Riyadh.

The minister told energy historian Daniel Yergin that OPEC+’s agreement to limit output by two million barrels per day in October had proven justified. The move sparked outrage in the United States, which claimed that the world economy needs more crude supplies, however, tensions have since subsided.

“If people had trusted us then, we wouldn’t have undergone the trepidations that happened,” he said, referring to a spike in prices to almost $100 a barrel after OPEC+ – a 23-nation group led by Saudi Arabia and Russia – announced its move.

The alliance’s market-monitoring committee convened on Wednesday and advised maintaining oil output at current levels, despite uncertainties over the depth of China’s economic recovery and the volume of Russian shipments as Western nations impose sanctions on Moscow.

Following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine last February, Brent rose to around $130 per barrel. It has since fallen below $80 per barrel, owing to rising interest rates and a strong dollar, which has caused an economic slowdown.

Fear of sanctions

Nonetheless, the oil market remains constrained. According to Goldman Sachs Group Inc., Brent will rise again above $100 per barrel in the third quarter due to low stocks and spare capacity among producers. Morgan Stanley has made a similar prediction.

The prince warned that restrictions against energy companies could backfire if and when demand increases rapidly.

“All of these sanctions and embargoes will converge into one and only thing: a scarcity of energy supplies of all types when they’re most needed,” he warned. “That is my concern.”
