This summer, the Queen will be absent from royal garden gatherings

Buckingham Palace has announced that other members of the Royal Family will fill in for the Queen when the customary garden parties return this summer.

The Queen, who is 96 years old and has mobility issues, has reduced her engagements in recent months. Buckingham Palace or the Palace of Holyroodhouse normally receives over 30,000 visitors each year. Details on which royals would attend will be disclosed later, according to a Palace spokesman.

The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee year will kick off with a garden party at Buckingham Palace next Wednesday; followed by others on May 18 and 25, as well as June 29 at the Palace of Holyroodhouse; that is her official residence in Edinburgh.
