Canadian tourist loses both hands in shark attack while taking photos

shark attack
  • A Canadian woman lost both her hands in a horrifying shark attack.
  • The woman attempted to photograph a six-foot-long shark.
  • She had been snorkeling when the predator attacked.

A 55-year-old Canadian woman lost both her hands in a horrifying shark attack while vacationing in the Turks and Caicos Islands. The tragic incident occurred on February 7, when the woman attempted to photograph a six-foot-long shark in shallow waters.

According to reports, she had been snorkeling when the predator attacked. Alerted by her screams, her husband rushed into the water, bravely scaring the shark away and bringing her to shore. However, she had already sustained severe injuries, leading to the amputation of both hands.

The Department of Environment and Coastal Resources (DECR) in Turks and Caicos stated that the woman had “attempted to engage with the animal” to take photos, seemingly unaware of the danger.

Photos taken after the attack show her surrounded by horrified family members and tourists, with cloth wrapped around her wrists to stop the bleeding. After initial treatment in the Caribbean, she was transported to Canada for further medical care.

Shark attacks remain rare, and experts believe the incident may have been a case of mistaken identity. Chris Stefanou, a New York fisherman and conservationist, suggested the woman’s smartphone could have played a role. “Sharks, or any predatory animal in the ocean, can confuse that as like a bait fish,” Stefanou told The New York Times. “The shark didn’t just see a human: ‘Ooh, I’m hungry, I want to go take a bite.’ That did not happen.”

To prevent such incidents, DECR advises swimming in designated areas, avoiding murky waters, and never swimming alone.

Creator of Nutella Francesco Rivella passes away at 97

Francesco Rivella
  • Francesco Rivella passed away on February 14 at the age of 97.
  • He was widely regarded as the “father of Nutella.”
  • Rivella’s funeral will take place on Monday in Alba.

Italian chemist Francesco Rivella, widely regarded as the “father of Nutella,” passed away on February 14 at the age of 97. Renowned for his contributions to the confectionery industry, Rivella played a crucial role in the creation of Nutella, along with other Ferrero classics like Kinder and Ferrero Rocher.

Born in Barbaresco, Piedmont, Rivella pursued bromatological chemistry in Turin before joining Ferrero in 1952. At just 25, he started working in the company’s chemistry lab in Alba, where he became instrumental in refining raw materials and perfecting flavor blends. His expertise was described as “instrumental” in shaping the taste and texture of Ferrero’s globally beloved treats.

Rivella’s career saw him rise to senior management, working closely with Ferrero’s founder, Michele Ferrero. The earliest version of Nutella, originally called Giandujot, was inspired by gianduja—a chocolate and hazelnut confection first sold in 1946. By 1951, the recipe evolved into SuperCrema, described on Nutella’s website as having been “transformed into a creamy new product that was easier to spread.”

Italian journalist Gigi Padovani, in his book Mondo Nutella (Nutella World), highlighted how Rivella and Michele Ferrero traveled the world collecting sweets “not to copy them, but to improve them.”

Rivella’s funeral will take place on Monday in Alba, where he spent his retirement. He will be laid to rest in his hometown of Barbaresco, as per reports.

Hamza Ali Abbasi officiating couple’s Nikah ceremony leaves netizen confused

Hamza Ali Abbasi
  • Hamza Ali Abbasi added an unexpected title to his list of accomplishments.
  • A video showing him officiating a couple’s Nikah ceremony went viral.
  • The internet quickly buzzed with responses.

Hamza Ali Abbasi, a multi-talented figure known for his roles in popular Pakistani dramas like Pyare Afzal, Mann Mayal, and Alif, has recently added an unexpected title to his list of accomplishments – Nikah officiant. A video showing the actor officiating a couple’s Nikah ceremony went viral, with many fans expressing their amusement and admiration for his new role.

In the video shared by Bunty Khalid Photography on Instagram, Hamza, who is also famous for his roles in films like Jawani Phir Nahi Aani and The Legend of Maula Jatt, took on the responsibilities of a Maulana, reciting sacred verses and announcing the Haq Meher (dowry amount) on behalf of the groom.

The internet quickly buzzed with responses, ranging from humor to applause, with some even asking Hamza to officiate their weddings. One fan jokingly commented, “Itna handsome Maulvi, mera bhai nikah parha do – Such a handsome religious figure, do solemnize my Nikah as well, please.”

While many fans were supportive, some critics raised concerns, arguing that actors, despite their fame, may lack the necessary knowledge or cultural sensitivity to perform such a sacred role.

“Actors should stick to their profession. Nikah is a serious religious duty, and it should be performed by someone properly trained,” one user remarked.

However, it’s important to note that Hamza wasn’t claiming to be a professional Maulana. Instead, he was simply a friend stepping in to support his buddy on their special day, demonstrating that sometimes a kind gesture can go a long way.

Amitabh Bachchan’s son in law Nikhil Nanda faces charges of fraud, abetment to suicide

Nikhil Nanda
  • Nikhil Nanda is currently at the center of a serious legal case.
  • A case was filed against Amitabh Bachchan’s son-in-law.
  • This involves allegations of fraud and abetment to suicide.

Nikhil Nanda, son-in-law of Bollywood icon Amitabh Bachchan, is currently at the center of a serious legal case involving allegations of fraud and abetment to suicide. A case was filed against Nanda in the Badaun district of Uttar Pradesh, following the tragic suicide of businessman Jitendra Singh in November 2024.

Singh, who owned Jai Kisan Traders, a tractor dealership in Dataganj, had reportedly been under intense pressure from Nanda and other senior executives at Escorts Kubota Limited to meet unrealistic sales targets.

Singh, who was already managing his business alone after his partner, Lalla Babu, was imprisoned over a family dispute, allegedly faced threats of losing his dealership license if he did not meet the target.

Overwhelmed by the pressure, Singh tragically took his own life. Singh’s brother, Gyanendra, filed the complaint that led to the legal case against Nanda and other officials, including the chairman and managing director of Escorts Kubota, area managers, sales managers, and a local dealer from Shahjahanpur. They are accused of fraud, intimidation, and driving Singh to suicide.

Nikhil Nanda, who holds a prominent position as the Chairman and Managing Director of Escorts Kubota, has not commented publicly on the allegations.

The Bachchan family, including Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan, has also refrained from commenting. Nikhil is married to Shweta Bachchan and has two children, Navya Naveli Nanda and Agastya Nanda.

Despite his significant role in growing Escorts Kubota, Nikhil’s connection to the Kapoor family and Bollywood has not shielded him from the ongoing legal issue.

Titanic child actress Alex Owens-Sarno reveals powerful scene that was deleted from the film

Titanic
  • Titanic could have been even more devastating.
  • A deleted scene once showed the tragic fate of Cora and her family.
  • Alex Owens-Sarno reflected on her experience working on the film.

The 1997 blockbuster Titanic could have been even more devastating, as a deleted scene once showed the tragic fate of Cora and her family.

During the Feb. 10 episode of the After We Wrap podcast, Alex Owens-Sarno, who played Cora in Titanic, reflected on her experience working on the film and shared details about a powerful scene that never made the final cut.

Owens-Sarno, now 36, recalled that filming Titanic was a “great” experience. One of her most memorable moments in the film is dancing with Leonardo DiCaprio’s Jack in third class before he tells her, “You’re still my best girl, Cora.” At the time, she “didn’t even really know who” DiCaprio was.

However, the most impactful scene for her as an actor was one that was removed—depicting Cora and her family drowning as the ship sank. “It was heavily rejected by moms,” she said. Though director James Cameron wanted it in, audiences found it “way too much.”

After Titanic‘s release, Owens-Sarno was shocked by the attention. “I started being approached on the street, like, ‘Oh my gosh, are you Cora?’” she said. Now, she’s reigniting her acting career, leaning into drama, where she feels her “talent lives.”

Titanic (1997), directed by James Cameron, is an epic romance and disaster film starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet. A massive box office success, it won 11 Oscars and remains a cinematic masterpiece.

Although she was fined 20 million won ($13,850 US) and issued a public apology, the hostility persisted, preventing her from making a professional comeback. “Kim Sae Ron’s death feels like one of someone pushed to the edge,” said Yale psychiatry professor Na Jong Ho. “A society that buries people without giving them a second chance after a mistake is not a healthy one.”

Pakistan’s diplomatic isolation has ended, says Ishaq Dar

Pakistan

NEW YORK: Pakistan has broken its diplomatic isolation through active diplomacy, with the country’s economy now set to take off as a result of the hard work done by Prime MInister Shehbaz Sharif’s government, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Senator, Ishaq Dar  told members of the Pakistani community.

“We are no longer isolated,” he said at his 2-hour interaction with the Pakistani diaspora at the Pakistan consulate in New York.

Pakistan now has many friends in the international community, organized two major international events recently — the SCO Summit and the Conference on Girls’ Education in Muslim Communities, with several heads of state visiting the country — Turkish President Recep Tayyip ErdoÄŸan being the most recent to express solidarity with the country, Senator Dar added.

He also highlighted Pakistan’s election to the UN Security Council, the world body’s power center, with a thumping majority of 182 votes for a two-year term —2025-26.

In his detailed remarks, DPM/FM said Senator Dar referred to Pakistan’s ups and downs, pointing out its strong economic position under the leadership of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif between 2013-17, the decline following it that brought the country to the verge of a default and the turn around led by the present government.

On the economic front, he said that the inflation rate had been reduced from 40 per cent to as low as 2.4 per cent in January 2025, leading to a decline in the policy rate. Remittances have showed an increase and the exports have risen leading to stability.

The situation would be further consolidated if all the political parties joined hands — without any conditions — keeping the interests of Pakistan above everything else.

Pakistan must come first, he added.

He urged Pakistani-American to increase their remittances and invest in projects in their homeland. In this connection, he told them to contact the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC), a facility to act as a “single window” to help investors, establish cooperation among all Government departments, and fast-track project development.

Will ‘Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani’ have a sequel? Actor Kunal Roy Kapur reveals

Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani
  • Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani remains one of Bollywood’s most beloved films.
  • Fans have been speculating about the possibility of a sequel.
  • Kunal stated that he does not think having a sequel is necessary.

A decade after its release, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani (2013) remains one of Bollywood’s most beloved films. Following its recent re-release in theatres, fans have been speculating about the possibility of a sequel. However, actor Kunal Roy Kapur, who played Taran Khanna in the film, does not think it’s necessary.

In an interview with Bollywood Bubble, Kunal stated, “It is complete. It is already done, right? The journeys of those characters are done. They are not needed really.” He believes the film told its story in entirety, leaving little room for continuation.

The film featured Kalki Koechlin’s character, Aditi, marrying Taran after realizing her love for Avi (Aditya Roy Kapur) was one-sided. When asked if Aditi and Taran would still be together, Kunal responded, “Given the graph of the movie, they would not be in a divorce court. They would definitely be a happily married couple. I can’t tell if she would be happily married with Taran, but he would probably be happy.”

However, Ranbir Kapoor previously hinted at a possible sequel. “I think Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani would make a good sequel… Ayan (Mukerji) also had a very nice story,” he shared in 2023, adding that it would explore where Bunny, Naina, Avi, and Aditi are a decade later.
