India’s Got Latent
  • India’s Got Latent has landed in legal trouble.
  • A contestant, Jessy Nabam, made controversial remarks.
  • Her remarks led to widespread outrage among Arunachal Pradesh.

The reality show India’s Got Latent, hosted by comedian Samay Raina, has landed in legal trouble following controversial remarks made by contestant Jessy Nabam from Arunachal Pradesh. The issue arose during a members-only episode when Raina asked Jessy whether she had ever eaten dog meat.

In response, Jessy stated, “The people of Arunachal Pradesh consume it, though I have never tasted it myself.” She further added, “I know because my friends eat it. They even eat their pets at times,” which sparked an immediate reaction from the panel. While Raina appeared visibly shocked, comedian Balraj Singh Ghai questioned the validity of her claim. However, Jessy stood by her statement.

Her remarks have led to widespread outrage, particularly among the indigenous communities of Arunachal Pradesh. Following the controversy, an FIR was filed against Jessy Nabam by Armaan Ram Welly Bakha, a resident of Arunachal Pradesh. The complaint, lodged at the Itanagar Police Station on January 31, 2025, accuses Jessy of making derogatory remarks about the state’s indigenous people.

The complainant has urged authorities to take swift action, stating that such comments perpetuate harmful stereotypes and should not be repeated in the future.

RTO Karachi surpasses its monthly tax collection target

Income Tax Calculator Pakistan 2025-26

KARACHI: The Regional Tax Office-1 Karachi has surpassed its monthly tax collection target, allocated by the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) headquarters, during the month of January 2025.

The RTO-1 was required to amass Rs. 26 billion through tax collection under its administrative domain; nevertheless the regional office climaxed at Rs. 28.6 billion on the closing date thereby contributing 10% more than the assigned 100% tax collection target.

An efficient tax collection, exceeding the monthly target, from a regional office signifies remarkably well for the Federal Board of Revenue that has already been pinpointing its focus on achieving the annual tax collection target for the ongoing FY 2024-25 keeping in view the slim economic state of the country.

The Regional Tax Office-1 has adopted a proactive enforcement strategy to enhance the share of domestic tax in the overall collection. Noteworthy in this regard are actions against tax evaders through on-spot stock takings and penalties on violation of PoS protocols.

Owing to these enforcement measures the voluntary tax compliance has shown visible signs of improvement climbing up from a meagre Rs. 300-400 million on an average to over a billion in December and January while the RTO-1 eyes a Rs. 3-4 billion mark in February and March 2025.

.Chief Commissioner RTO-1 Dr. Faheem Muhammad appreciated the efforts of his officers and staff in achieving landmark tax collection figures and imparting awareness amongst the trading community regarding PoS violations.

The prime minister expressed pleasure over the inflation coming down to a nine-year low at 2.4% from 28.73% on a month-to-month basis.

He told the cabinet members that on Monday, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman sent a delegation to Pakistan and both sides signed an agreement under which the Kingdom would provide oil worth annual $1.2 billion on deferred payment.

Author Neil Gaiman again in hot water, faces rape charges from former nanny

Neil Gaiman
  • Neil Gaiman has been hit with a lawsuit accusing him of rape.
  • The lawsuit follows recent controversy surrounding Gaiman.
  • Gaiman has denied the accusation.

Acclaimed author Neil Gaiman has been hit with a lawsuit accusing him of sexual assault and rape. Filed on February 3 in a Wisconsin federal court, the lawsuit was brought forward by Scarlett Pavlovich, the former nanny of Gaiman and his estranged wife, Amanda Palmer.

According to documents obtained by The Hollywood Reporter, Pavlovich alleges that Gaiman raped her multiple times while she worked as a nanny in his household, claiming that the abuse was a condition of her employment. The lawsuit further accuses the American Gods author of having a “decades-long history of sexual misconduct,” with multiple women allegedly signing non-disclosure agreements.

The lawsuit follows recent controversy surrounding Gaiman. Last month, Dark Horse Comics announced it would cease publishing adaptations of his work after New York Magazine published a cover story detailing allegations of sexual misconduct based on interviews with eight women.

Gaiman has denied the accusations, stating, “Some of the horrible stories now being told simply never happened, while others have been so distorted from what actually took place that they bear no relationship to reality.”

The lawsuit details violent assaults beginning in 2022 and alleges that Palmer was aware of the abuse. Pavlovich claims she was unpaid and unable to leave due to financial instability. “Gaiman and Palmer intended to have Scarlett trapped, vulnerable, and penniless,” the lawsuit states.
