Captain Jason Chambers has made major changes to “Below Deck Down Under” for its new season to address a recent incident that left most of the crew in shock.
According to a source, during the second season of “Below Deck Down Under”, bosun Luke Jones stripped naked and locked himself in a female crew member’s cabin while she was unconscious. The situation escalated when he refused to open the door until producers intervened and removed him from the cabin. Reports state that this occurred after a night of heavy drinking.
When Captain Jason was notified, he immediately escorted bosun Luke Jones off the boat and fired him the following day. As the series heads into its third season, Captain Jason emphasized that “Below Deck Down Under” producers will now prioritize safety protocols, focusing on “the policies and procedures they already had in place and used.”
In an interview with the outlet, Captain Jason revealed that the producers even broke the fourth wall to remove Luke Jones from the boat.
“I don’t know if I can say this, but there was a massive drop in alcohol intake,” Captain Jason mentioned to the outlet. NBCUniversal Entertainment strengthened its training and alcohol policy weeks after the incident. They extended these rules beyond the “Below Deck” franchise as well.
Referring to the new rules, Captain Jason mentioned in his conversation with the outlet that the camera crew still managed to capture plenty of drama.
“The drama was still there. Crew still actually dropped their guard a little bit,” Captain Jason Chambers added.
During the latest season of “Below Deck Sailing Yacht”, Captain Glenn Shephard allowed a few crew members to join their guests for a night out, with a two-cocktail rule in place.
