Swedish police reported on Tuesday that five individuals were shot in an attack at a school in Örebro, approximately 200 km (125 miles) west of Stockholm, prompting a large-scale emergency response.
“Five people have been confirmed shot,” police stated, though the severity of their injuries remains unknown.
Authorities are currently treating the incident as attempted murder, arson, and an aggravated weapons offense.
Emergency services, including ambulances, firefighters, and police, are present at the scene, according to a spokesperson for local rescue teams.
The shooting occurred in a campus area housing multiple schools catering to both children and adults.
As a precaution, students at the affected school and neighboring institutions were kept indoors.
Sweden’s Justice Minister, Gunnar Strömmer, described the attack as “very serious” and stated that the government is maintaining close coordination with law enforcement.
