NADRA, Sindh Govt establish diagnostic desk of Thalassemia, Hepatitis

NADRA

KARACHI:  National Database & Registration Authority (NADRA) Sindh, in collaboration with the provincial government, has established diagnostic Desk of Thalassemia Prevention and Hepatitis at two centers in the city.

An inauguration ceremony was held at NADRA Center Korangi No. 4 near the zoo, in honor of the Thalassemia test desk.

While speaking to the media, DG NADRA Sindh stated that in the first phase, Thalassemia desks are being set up at Korangi and Big NRC in Safoora, and the scope will be expanded to other centers as needed. He mentioned that through these desks at NADRA centers, free testing for Thalassemia and other blood diseases, including Hepatitis A, B, and C, will be possible with the support of the Sindh government and Muhammadi Blood Bank.

During his address at the event, DG NADRA Sindh emphasized that this initiative by the Sindh government will undoubtedly be a game changer, as diseases like Thalassemia and other blood disorders are silent killers with severe and painful effects on humanity.

He further added that nearly 500,000 people visit NADRA centers across Karachi and Sindh for the renewal of national identity cards and other matters. If we can convince the individuals visiting NADRA centers to get tested for Thalassemia, it would be a significant achievement.

On this occasion, Secretary Blood Transfusion Dr. Dur e naz Jamal stated that they are encouraging families with major Thalassemia cases because it is established that if one case is reported in these families, more cases are likely to be found. There is a need to raise public awareness and encourage blood sample testing to reduce the incidence of major cases after identifying minor Thalassemia cases.

She noted that 5 out of 100 people could be affected by minor Thalassemia, which is why this test is crucial for unmarried individuals.

IHC dismisses PTI founder, Bushra Bibi’s pleas against arrest

IHC

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) dismissed a petition challenging the arrest of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) founder and Bushra Bibi in the Toshakhana case, following the National Accountability Bureau’s (NAB) filing of a reference in the accountability court.

A division bench of the Islamabad High Court, consisting of Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb and Justice Babar Sattar, heard the petitions challenging the arrests of PTI founder and Bushra Bibi in connection with the Toshakhana case.

During the hearing, PTI’s lawyer Salman Safdar and NAB prosecutors Rafeh Maqsood and Umair Majeed presented their arguments.

The NAB prosecutor informed the court that a reference regarding the Toshakhana case had already been filed in the accountability court. This development, he argued, granted the right to seek post-arrest bail.

Salman Safdar, representing the PTI founder, contended that the court had previously stated that the call-up notices in the case were unclear.

The court questioned the prosecution on several points, including the validity of the call-up notices and the fundamental rights at stake.

Army Chief calls for grooming youngsters as valuable asset of country

No agenda, movement, or individual is greater than national security: says COAS

ISLAMABAD: Chief of Army Staff (COAS), General Syed Asim Munir said the youth of the country was the biggest and most valuable capital that would not be allowed to waste under any circumstances.

Addressing the Youth Convention here, the Chief of Army Staff said that knowledge distinguished a person from others, whereas seeing the sparkle in the eyes of young people made one believe that the future of Pakistan was in safe hands.

The Army Chief said it was the responsibility of the state to keep the masses at bay from the malicious implications of social media-induced confusion and sedition.

A strong relationship between the people, the government and the army was the guarantee of Pakistan’s security and development, he said, adding, “Those who were creating the narrative of Pakistan’s default, where are they today?”

“If you want to know the importance of a free state, ask the people of Libya, Syria, Kashmir, and Gaza. As Muslims we are forbidden from despair,” the COAS said.

The Chief of Army Staff told the youth that life was a test, and read the Qur’anic verse, “Do people think that they will be left alone for saying, ‘We believe,’ and they will not be tested?”

At the end of the speech, the Army Chief recited this poem of Allama Iqbal addressing the youth:

“The destiny of nations is in the hands of individuals

Every individual is the star of the destiny of the nation.”

During the question period after the speech, the Chief of Army Staff explained the position of the Pakistan Army on various issues.

In response to a question on the riots in Parachinar, the Army Chief said that the tribes should sit together and help end the land and sub-district disputes.
