PESHAWAR: Sonia Shamroz, the only Muslim woman to win the International Association of Women Police Award, was appointed Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Establishment for the first time in the history of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Hailing from Abbottabad district, Sonia Shamroz has worked as DPO Chitral and DPO Battagram. Sonia Shamroz joined the police service in 2013 and has served as ASP and DPO in various districts.

Sonia Shamroz said that now they have got very good responsibilities, female officers in the province are being given equal rights compared to male officers. She did not recommend anyone for any position.

She said that the province has a good working environment, has received international and national awards for its services. The awards are related to the prevention of forced marriages and violence against women.

Federal Govt forms Digital Pakistan Committee

ISLAMABAD: The federal government has formed the Digital Pakistan Committee and appointed Tania Edros as convener of the committee.

With the approval of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, the Ministry of Information Technology has issued a notification according to which Tania Edros has again become a part of the Digital Pakistan Committee.

According to the notification, Minister of State for Information Technology Shaza Fatima Khawaja will head the committee. Tania Edros has been appointed as the convener of the committee.

The Secretary of the Ministry of IT is also included in the committee. The committee will make recommendations regarding digital vision in Pakistan.

It should be noted that Tania Edros has also been the former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s Special Assistant for Digital Pakistan, but she resigned after allegedly criticizing her dual citizenship (Canadian).

Two die, nine other injured as roof of hospital collapsed in Gujrat

GUJRAT: At least two people were killed and nine other were injured when  roof of Aziz Bhatti Shaheed Teaching Hospital Gujrat suddenly collapsed.

The patients were undergoing treatment in the surgical ward located on the first floor of Aziz Bhatti Shaheed Hospital in Gujrat when suddenly the roof collapsed injuring several patients.

The rescue staff immediately removed the injured patients from the debris and shifted them to other wards and outside.

Two patients including a woman under treatment died and 9 were injured in the incident.

According to the hospital sources, an attempt was made to make the pillars smaller to renovate the hospital, due to which the ceiling of the surgical ward collapsed.

On the other hand, Provincial Minister for Communications & Works Punjab Malik Soheb Ahmed Bherth directed the research wing of C&W to conduct an inquiry.

He further said that action will be taken against those responsible for not taking safety measures regarding repairs.
