$1 Trillion green Investment matches fossil fuels for first time

fossil fuels
  • 31% increase over the previous year.
  • The surge was caused by the energy crisis that followed Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
  • Hydro and nuclear power continued to contribute 32% of total electricity generation in the 27-nation bloc.

PARIS: After hitting $1 trillion last year, investment in clean energy is on the verge of surpassing spending on fossil fuels for the first time.

Despite the achievement, BloombergNEF estimates that spending on energy transition technology must instantly increase to fulfill the aim of net-zero emissions by 2050 to mitigate climate change.

Renewables, nuclear, zero-emission vehicles, and recycling initiatives received $1.1 trillion in investment last year, matching spending on fossil fuels, according to the report.

This represents a 31% increase over the previous year and the first time the investment amount has been calculated in trillions.

According to the research, the surge was caused by the energy crisis that followed Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

“Investment in clean energy technology is on the verge of overtaking fossil fuel investments and will not look back,” said Albert Cheung, BloombergNEF’s head of global analysis.

Top polluter

China, the world’s top polluter, was by far the largest investor in energy transition, with the US trailing far behind.

China accounted for about half of the total worldwide investment, mainly in the steel recycling, renewable energy, and electric vehicles (EV) sectors.

Germany has maintained its third-place ranking, owing partly to a strong EV market.

However, a reduction in offshore wind projects caused investment in the UK to plummet by about a fifth, according to the research.

Renewable energy was the most heavily invested in the sector globally, accounting for $495 billion, followed by electrified transportation projects.

With the exception of nuclear power, all other sectors received unprecedented levels of investment, according to the experts.

The advancement of energy transition technologies coincides with an increase in fossil fuel investment in many countries in an effort to ensure energy security.

The war in Ukraine disrupted worldwide power supply because Russia, a major supplier of fossil fuels, curtailed gas supplies to European Union (EU) countries and was sanctioned for the invasion.

According to a separate analysis released on Tuesday by Ember, an energy think tank, wind, and solar energy generated 22% of EU electricity, exceeding gas (20%) for the first time.

Hydro and nuclear power continued to contribute 32% of total electricity generation in the 27-nation bloc.

Gisele Bündchen to break her silence on split from Tom Brady

Gisele Bündchen
  • Gisele Bündchen finally speaks up about her breakup with Tom Brady.
  • From 2002 to 2016, Gisele topped Forbes’ list of highest-paid models.
  • She will discuss candidly her divorce from NFL champion Brady while posing for a VF cover.

Gisele Bündchen finally speaks up about her breakup with Tom Brady in a vanity fair cover story.

The 42-year-old Brazilian supermodel looked amazing as she wore a pink Chanel swimsuit during a picture shoot close to her Florida home. She has been spotted vamping for the cameras in a stunning comeback to modelling.

Now, according to reports, the mother-of-two will discuss candidly her divorce from NFL champion Brady while posing for a VF cover.

In September 2007 and May 2009, the model was on the cover of Vanity Fair. “I think this makes sense for Gisele,” a market insider remarked. She has a strong sense of independence and intelligence after the divorce.

From 2002 through 2016, Gisele Bündchen topped Forbes’ list of highest-paid models. She put her modelling career on hold to raise her and Brady’s children, Benjamin, 12, and Vivian, 9.

Despite the “tough” decision to leave the marriage, Bündchen said she felt “fortunate” for the 13 years she and Brady had together. The couple finalised their divorce in October.

She has since returned with a fury.

In a campaign for Louis Vuitton’s Yayoi Kusama collection earlier this month, Bündchen posed topless in denim while showcasing the company’s newest handbag line. She has since been spotted in Miami shooting along the beach.

With her kids and their family’s jiu-jitsu coach Joaquim Valente, with whom she has grown close, the model has been dividing her time between Miami and Costa Rica.

According to a source, Bünchen is “supercharged” about starting her career in the next months, according to People magazine. She is actively making decisions and is happier and more at ease than she has been in a while.

President orders restoration of property to a woman citizen

President orders
  • Dr Arif Alvi upheld the orders of the FOSPAH.
  • He said local commissioner be appointed to restore property.
  • President rejected baseless stance of the accused person.

ISLAMABAD: President Dr Arif Alvi has upheld the orders of the Federal Ombudsman for Protection against Harassment of Women (FOSPAH), and directed the restoration of a valuable property of a female citizen of Islamabad through the appointment of a local commission.

The order asked for its vacation from the illegal occupation, breaking open the locks of the premises, in case found locked, removal of any other hurdles or barriers in the way of taking possession of the property, and giving it back to the rightful owner under the Enforcement of Women’s Property Rights Act, 2020.

The president said “a local commissioner be appointed to restore or confer possession of the title of the property, a valuable house in Bahria Town, to Ms Aalya Fazal (the complainant) including measures to perfect such title and to submit a compliance report within seven days”.

The local commissioner could avail the aid of local police if necessary, and the SHO of the local police station should extend full aid to the local commissioner and be present with her at the relevant time along with the police contingent for the safety and security of the local commissioner, it was further added.

The president in his decision rejected the unqualified and baseless stance of the accused person that he had been condemned unheard by FOSPAH, adding that the accused had not produced anything to establish the title of the disputed house in his favour, and thus, had no locus standi to bring the representation against the orders of FOSPAH, President Secretariat Press Wing said in a press release on Tuesday.

Aalya Fazal had filed a complaint before FOSPAH stating that her father Chaudhary Fazal Hussain has appointed her as his attorney to manage the affairs of his house in Bahria Town, Islamabad. This house was rented to different persons from 2007 to 2016 and afterwards, it remained vacant.

According to the complainant, when her brother visited the house in 2020 it was found that the house was illegally occupied by some unknown persons wherein the matter was reported to Bahria Town and the local police.

The police summoned the person residing in the house who gave the undertaking to vacate the house.

Afterwards, a suit was filed in court that the house was purchased in 2008 based on a forged agreement dated 02.07.2008.

Varun Dhawan discusses reuniting with Alia Bhatt for a film

Varun Dhawan
  • Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt were spotted together at an awards event.
  • The actors will be performing at the Zee Cine Awards later this year.
  • Alia will be back on stage for the first time since she gave birth to her daughter, Raha Kapoor, in November 2022.

Actor Varun Dhawan gave an update on when he and frequent co-star Alia Bhatt would work on a movie while speaking at a gathering for an upcoming awards presentation. They are still looking for a project that works for both of them, he claimed.
At a gathering for a forthcoming awards show, Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt were once more spotted together. Later this year, the actors will perform at the Zee Cine Awards. For the first time since giving birth to Raha Kapoor in November 2022, Alia will return to the stage. Varun also provided an update on the possibility of him and Alia Bhatt working on a joint project. He stated that they are still seeking a suitable project.

Alia Bhatt said that she was a little anxious about returning to the stage after it was revealed that she and Varun would be singing at the awards show. “Since I haven’t been on stage in a while, I’m feeling very anxious. I haven’t felt that stage show adrenaline rush in a very long time “She added, adding that she couldn’t remember the last time she had performed on an awards stage.

Varun made a joke about being “extremely busy, I just had a baby” when asked about working with Alia again on the big screen. Then he continued, “Sincerely, I believe that working with Alia is similar to that one occasion when I was constantly alert. She constantly challenges me. Any conversations that take place regarding collaborating creatively must always be the best. It must be something that she and I both adore and that we feel won’t let the audience down. The conversation is ongoing. We are only looking for something that is best suited for us, which is the only reason it is taking so long.”

In 2012, Sidharth Malhotra and Alia made their acting debuts together in Karan Johar’s Student Of The Year. In the films Kalank, Badrinath Ki Dulhania, and Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania (2014), they have also appeared alongside one another (2019).

Varun appeared in Jugjugg Jeeyo, a family drama from the previous year, alongside Kiara Advani, Anil Kapoor, and Neetu Kapoor. He also starred alongside Kriti Sanon in the horror comedy Bhediya. In contrast, Alia has a successful year in 2022 thanks to the successes Gangubai Kathiawadi, RRR, Darlings, and Brahmstra: Part One – Shiva. With the Netflix movie Darlings, she also made the transition to producing.

Beijing has hit ‘temporary herd immunity,’ official says

Beijing
  • China’s unparalleled virus wave is fading.
  • COVID deaths nationwide have dropped by over 80%.
  • The city would survey thousands of citizens in February and March.

BEIJING – Beijing has reached “temporary herd immunity,” and its COVID outbreak is nearing a conclusion, according to a city health official, another indicator that China’s unparalleled virus wave is fading.

Since the ruling Communist Party abruptly reversed its zero-COVID policy last month, a flood of cases has swept through the world’s most populous nation.

The spike crammed hospitals and crematoriums in major cities, including Beijing, though the scope of the outbreak is difficult to confirm because official statistics are thought to represent just a small percentage of the total number of cases.

However, there are signs that the increase is slowing, with authorities reporting last week that the number of daily COVID deaths nationwide has dropped by over 80% since the beginning of January.

Beijing’s Centre for Disease Control and Prevention

Wang Quanyi, deputy head of Beijing’s Centre for Disease Control and Prevention, told local media Tuesday that the metropolis of 22 million has “established temporary herd immunity protection”.

“This wave of infections in Beijing has already peaked and is now coming to an end,” the state News quoted Wang as saying.

The capital was “currently in a state of sporadic infections” with the virus exhibiting a “relatively low risk of transmission”, Wang said.

According to official data, the number of persons seeking treatment for flu-like diseases at major Beijing hospitals dropped by more than 40% between January 23 and 29, compared to the previous week.

According to Wang, a national decrease in the number of illnesses showed that the end of the Lunar New Year break would “not have too much of an impact” when people returned to Beijing from other regions of the country.

He went on to say that the city would survey thousands of citizens in February and March to see how many have COVID antibodies in their blood plasma.

The survey will “comprehensively assess Beijing’s state of coronavirus infection” and “provide a reference for optimizing resource allocation in the future,” Wang said.

‘Real Housewives of New York’ stars in clash with each other

Real Housewives of New York
  • The likely stars of the upcoming “Legacy” Bravo show disagreed.
  • Former cast members were in talks with the network about a “Legacy” edition.
  • Negotiations broke down because they wanted more episodes and higher pay.

The likely stars of the upcoming “Legacy” Bravo show ‘Real Housewives of New York‘ disagreed on whether or not to accept a deal that would allow the show to premiere. Additionally, those who were prepared to sign on the dotted line were furious with the holdouts who caused the deal to collapse.

Former cast members Luann de Lesseps, Sonja Morgan, Jill Zarin, Kelly Bensimon, and Dorinda Medley were in talks with the network about a “Legacy” edition that would air concurrently with the “main” “Real Housewives of New York” show, which has been completely rebuilt and the veteran cast members fired.

However, negotiations broke down because the talent insisted on more guaranteed episodes and higher pay for each episode, while Bravo felt that the stars were overvaluing themselves.

Now we learn that the “Housewives” did not reach a consensus on this matter. For instance, sources claim that Bensimon was prepared to sign but that Zarin’s insistence on a sizable payment was the straw that broke the camel’s back.

Zarin reportedly pushed for a tough deal.

We are informed that Medley was also prepared to agree to the conditions and start the filming. And according to insiders, Morgan barely paid attention to the entire situation.

Anushka & Virat feed 100 saints during Rishikesh’s bhandara

Anushka & Virat
  • Anushka Sharma and Virat Kohli visited Swami Dayanand Giri’s ashram in Rishikesh.
  • The couple organised a religious feast, bhandara for 100 saints.
  • Photos of the duo seeking blessings at the ashram have emerged on social media.

In Rishikesh, Anushka Sharma and Virat Kohli organized a bhandara to feed 100 Saints. During the spiritual pause, they are captured in pictures and videos folding their hands and asking for blessings.
The spiritual journey of actress Anushka Sharma and cricketer Virat Kohli began in Rishikesh. Following their visit to the ashram of Swami Dayanand Giri, the couple organized a holy feast called bhandara for 100 saints. Social media users posted pictures of the couple requesting blessings at the ashram, and many admirers were impressed.

In the pictures, Anushka and Virat Kohli can be seen asking the saints who were seated on the ground during the feast for their blessings. The couple greeted them with folded hands and showed their reverence when food was brought to them. Anushka donned a white salwar suit with a flowery shawl, while Virat wore pants and a jumper.

At the ashram, they also took pictures with admirers. Anushka shared a picturesque image of herself relaxing by a river earlier in the day. The couple will reportedly participate in more open religious ceremonies at the ashram.

In response to the images, one fan commented on Twitter that “Kohli is the only cricketer or even celebrity who has been so connected to origins. Consider visiting Nainital, Rishikesh, and Vrindavan. Even after achieving such prominence, Kohli consistently visits places of worship, unlike any other celebrity I have been across. Another person chimed in, “Oh, I see you’re a man of culture as well.” “After marriage, Anushka made Virat spiritual,” someone else tweeted. Good. That couple is wonderful. Godspeed to the family!

US says Russia not complying with last remaining nuclear treaty

Russia
  • The State Department chastised Russia for suspending inspections and canceling discussions.
  • Russia is not complying with its obligation under the New START.
  • Diplomacy between the two nations has dwindled in the last year.

WASHINGTON – As tensions rise over the Ukraine conflict, the US stated on Tuesday that Russia was not complying with the New Strategic Weapons Reduction Deal (START), the world’s only remaining arms control treaty between the world’s two major nuclear powers.

In response to a congressional request, the State Department chastised Russia for suspending inspections and canceling discussions. However, it did not accuse its Cold War opponent of exceeding agreed-upon limitations on nuclear warheads.

“Russia is not complying with its obligation under the New START to facilitate inspection activities on its territory,” a State Department spokesperson said, charging that Moscow’s refusal “threatens the viability of US-Russian nuclear arms control.”

“Russia has a clear path for returning to full compliance. All Russia needs to do is allow inspection activities on its territory, just as it did for years under the New START Treaty, and meet in a session of the Bilateral Consultative Commission,” he said, referring to the formal talks set up under the treaty.

“There is nothing preventing Russian inspectors from traveling to the United States and conducting inspections.”

In early August, Moscow stated that it would suspend US inspections of its military sites under New START. It claimed to be in response to American obstruction of reviews by Russia, which Washington denies.

Diplomacy between the two nations has dwindled in the last year as the US has led an effort to punish Russia economically and supply Ukraine with billions of dollars in weapons as it fights back against a Moscow invasion.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has expressed thinly disguised threats to use nuclear weapons in Ukraine, reigniting Cold War-era concerns of a nuclear war.

Russia indefinitely postponed talks under New START that had been due to start on November 29 in Cairo, accusing the United States of “toxicity and animosity.”

Make the world safer

President Joe Biden extended New START by five years, until 2026, to allow time for negotiations while protecting what the Democratic government sees as a crucial current deal.

The previous Trump administration blew up past arms control treaties and was unwilling to keep New START in its current form, claiming that any nuclear pact must include China, whose arsenal is quickly rising but still much less than that of Russia and the United States.

The Biden administration showed a desire to preserve New START, stating that the pact was intended to “make the world safer.”

“To fully deliver on the promise of the treaty by ensuring it remains an instrument of stability and predictability, Russia must fully implement and comply with its obligations,” the State Department spokesperson said.

Republican members, who won control of the House in January, had urged Secretary of State Antony Blinken to report on whether Russia was in violation of New START by Tuesday.

The Republican chairs of the foreign affairs, armed services, and intelligence committees wrote last week that Russia’s actions and words “at a minimum create substantial compliance issues.”

The new START treaty, signed by then-President Barack Obama in 2010 during a period of improved ties, limited Russia and the United States to a total of 1,550 deployed strategic nuclear warheads apiece, a reduction of over 30% from the previous limit set in 2002.

It also restricts the number of launchers and heavy bombers to 800, which is still sufficient to destroy Earth.

Paul Rudd reveals what’s behind his superhuman ability to stay so attractive

Paul Rudd
  • Paul Rudd is Men’s Health’s March 2023 cover star.
  • The Ant-Man actor says sleep is the key to staying young.
  • He gets eight hours of sleep each night.

Sleep is Paul Rudd’s key to maintaining his youthful appearance. Rudd, who will be on the cover of Men’s Health in March 2023, admitted to the publication that he sleeps eight hours every night.

Rudd said, “People ask me, ‘Can you send me your meal plan? How many times a week do you work out? Do you drink? Do you eat carbs? Do you have a cheat day?’ The most important part of training is sleep.”

Rudd, 53, asserted that those who set their alarms for four hours after going to bed in order to have more time to train are doing themselves a disservice.

Rudd, who was named the Sexiest Man Alive in 2021, remarked, “They’re doing themselves a disservice.

Rudd starts each day with a cup of coffee and some cardio. “I do cardio before I eat anything. I never would’ve done that before [Ant-Man],” Rudd said.

The Ant-Man actor admitted to the magazine that he never intended to play a superhero, but that the experience has changed his life.

“I never really thought I was the type of actor that they would offer any of those parts to,” He said. “But when this idea came around, I was excited about doing something that was so out of left field, and I knew that if it was announced that I was going to be joining a superhero franchise, most people would say, What the f—?”
