The first Western European satellite launch appears to have failed due to an “anomaly” that stopped the rocket from reaching orbit.

Virgin Orbit, a consortium led by the UK Orbit Agency and British airline tycoon Richard Branson, was attempting to launch nine tiny satellites into space from a 70-foot (21-meter) rocket fitted to the wing of a modified Boeing 747.

The converted jumbo jet took off from the coastal town of Newquay in southwest England at 22:02 GMT on Monday.

After detaching from the airplane, the rocket ignited about an hour and a half later, over the Atlantic Ocean at a height of 10,670 meters (35,000 feet).

But Virgin Orbit later said there had been an “anomaly that has prevented us from reaching orbit”; it said it would provide more information when it could.

The UK space industry employs 47,000 people and ranks second only to the US in terms of satellite production.

More than 2,000 space fans had gathered to cheer when the aircraft took off from the runway in Newquay.

Following the mission, the huge jet, according to Virgin Orbit, safely landed in Newquay. The country is second only to the United States in the number of satellites it produces.

An investigation could take some time, depending on the cause and gravity of the problem. Last month, Europe’s Vega-C midsized rocket failed and is expected to be grounded for several months while an inquiry is carried out.

LHC orders to implement decision on issuance of NOC to Ramzan Sugar Mills

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) ordered to implementation of its decision regarding the issuance of a no objection certificate (NOC) to Ramzan Sugar Mills in two days.

A hearing was held in the Lahore High Court on the petition against the non-issuance of NOC to Ramzan Sugar Mills owned by the Sharif family.

Director General (DG) Excise appeared in court on court orders.

While hearing the petition, Justice Shahid Karim expressed his displeasure at the delayed appearance of DG Excise and said that judges can come in the morning, so why can’t you come.

DG Excise replied that he want to apologize to the court, it will not happen in the future, “to which the court said, “Why you are not following the decision, is it a personal issue.”

Sulman Aslam Butt Advocate appeared in court on behalf of the petitioner. The petitioner’s counsel submitted that the petitioner Ramzan Sugar Mills fulfilled all the conditions for obtaining the license.

The petitioner’s lawyer submitted that despite the court order, the license is not being issued on political grounds, requesting that the court issue orders implement the order of NOC issuance, on which Justice Shahid Karim Lahore.

Umar Gul, a former fast bowler for Pakistan, has emerged as a leading contender for the position of bowling coach for the Men in Green, sources told Geo News on Monday.

It is important to note that Gul’s role as the Afghanistan cricket team’s bowling coach recently came to an end.

The 40-year-old represented Pakistan in 237 international matches across all forms, grabbing 85 wickets in 60 T20Is and 179 in 130 ODIs with a remarkable career economy of 7.19.

He was also crucial to Pakistan’s successful T20 World Cup campaign in 2009.

The great all-rounder Shahid Afridi is also up for appointment as chief selector till the 2023 World Cup in India, according to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Management Committee, which is overseen by Najam Sethi.

Prior to the home series against New Zealand, the PCB has nominated Afridi as the temporary chair of the Men’s National Selection Committee.

“I feel honoured to have been assigned this responsibility by the PCB Management Committee and will leave no stone unturned in fulfilling this responsibility to the best of my abilities,” Afridi was quoted as saying in a PCB press release.

“We need to get back to our winning ways and I have no doubts that through meritocratic and strategic selection decisions, we will help the national side to perform strongly in the series against New Zealand and reclaim the confidence of our fans,” he added.

Former cricket players Abdul Razzaq and Rao Iftikhar Anjum are also on the panel, and Haroon Rashid, a member of the management committee, is the moderator.

Between 1996 and 2018, Shahid Afridi participated in 27 Tests, 398 ODIs, and 99 T20Is during which time he amassed 11,196 runs and 541 wickets. In 83 international games, he also served as captain of the home team. He additionally competed for Pakistan in the 2009 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.

Afridi was also appointed to the management committee but declined since he preferred to concentrate on his philanthropic organisation.

In 2019, almost 2.4 million people participated in the pilgrimage. However, because of the coronavirus lockdowns in 2020, the Gulf nation dramatically reduced the Hajj. It was an unusual step, even during the 1918 flu outbreak, which killed tens of millions worldwide.

Last year, nearly 900,000 pilgrims were welcomed to Islam’s holiest cities of Mecca and Medina for the pilgrimage.

However, only those under the age of 65 with coronavirus immunization and a negative test might enter the country.

Pakistan thrash New Zealand in the opening ODI

Fast bowler Naseem Shah claimed five wickets in Karachi’s opening one-day international as Pakistan cruised to a six-wicket victory over New Zealand.

In his second five-wicket haul in as many ODI appearances, the 19-year-old picked up 5-57 as New Zealand, who were put in to bat, managed 255-9 in their 50 overs at the National Stadium.

Fakhar Zaman (56), the captain Babar Azam (66), and Mohammad Rizwan (77 unbeaten) then assisted Pakistan in cruising to win with 11 balls remaining.

In the three-game series, the home team is up 1-0.

The final two games will take place on Wednesday and Friday, both in Karachi.

Imam-ul-Haq (11), who was out in the sixth over, was followed by Azam and Zaman, who added 78 runs for the second wicket.

Before being dismissed by Michael Bracewell, Zaman blasted seven boundaries in his 74-ball innings. In contrast, Azam was stumped by Glenn Phillips after facing 82 balls.

Rizwan added 64 with Haris Sohail, who struck a quick-fire 32 after adding 60 with Azam.

With a 2-44, off-spinner Bracewell was the top bowler for New Zealand.

Earlier, New Zealand was held in check by Naseem’s ferocious bowling.

The young player gave Pakistan the early advantage by dismissing Devon Conway for naught in the first over of the game.

In order to account for Phillips (37), Bracewell (43) and Henry Shipley, Naseem made a second appearance (nought).

Naseem finished off his night by removing Mitchell Santner for 21 in the final over. This was his first five-wicket haul in an ODI, which came against the Netherlands in August.

During a fourth-wicket stand of 56 between Tom Latham (42) and Daryl Mitchell (36), the innings was stabilised. Phillips and Bracewell contributed 66 runs off 59 balls for the sixth wicket before being bowled by Naseem in consecutive overs.

Before being skillfully bowled by rookie leg-spinner Usama Mir, who finished with 2-42, captain Kane Williamson had hit 26 runs.

In his 53-ball innings, Phillips smashed a six and a four, and Bracewell smacked four boundaries and a six. Finn Allen, the first player, hit six goals in his 27-ball 29.
