ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif emphasized on Monday the need to quickly implement the Transit Trade Agreement and Preferential Trade Agreement with Uzbekistan in order to fully recognize the enormous bilateral economic potential.
In a meeting with Uzbek Ambassador Oybek Usmanov, who paid him a courtesy call, the prime minister underlined Pakistan’s commitment to granting transit access to Central Asian Republics to the ports of Karachi, Bin Qasim, and Gwadar.
He emphasized Pakistan’s aim for stronger engagement with Central Asia, as well as Uzbekistan’s critical role in this respect.
He expressed delight in Pakistan and Uzbekistan’s close and fraternal relations and underlined the significance of further developing bilateral trade and economic ties.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif emphasized the Trans-Afghan Railway Project’s importance in advancing the connectivity goal and promoting regional development.
PM also welcomed Uzbek investments in Pakistan’s Special Economic Zones (SEZs), notably in the industrial, electronics, and agricultural sectors, for mutual gain.
The prime minister stressed the importance of increased collaboration in education, tourism, and culture to foster people-to-people relations.
He accentuated the importance of direct bilateral aviation connection and urged the respective national airlines to begin operations as soon as possible to enable the movement of businesspeople, students, and tourists between the two nations.
While stressing Pakistan and Uzbekistan’s shared viewpoints on regional challenges, the prime minister underlined Pakistan’s solid commitment to Afghanistan’s long-term peace, security, and stability.
