Pakistan is full of talented people. Every other person in the country is gifted with a unique talent, just like this girl from Malakand, who creates portraits on flour stainers.

Almas Khanam Jan from Malakhan, Khyber-Pakhtunkwa has stitched several portraits on the flour stainers – a new art form.

The area residents call Jan’s family ‘Chand Walay’ as her house is located at the hillock.

Almas comes from a family of artists, including sculptors, poets, and musicians. She was one of the heroes of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) segment ‘Humare Heroes’. She was introduced to the world on Wednesday (3rd March) as she was invited to the National Stadium Karachi.

During an interview, Almais said it took 10 days to complete the portrait as “it is not an easy task to perfectly portray with a cotton thread…It takes all my attention.”

She has made many portraits of the famous personalities on the flour stainer including Abdul Sattar Edhi, Benazir Bhutto, Sardar Ali Takkar, Hamid Karzai, and many others. She has gifted some of her artwork to renowned people.

“I will hand over Edhi Sahib’s portrait to his son [Faisal Edhi] very soon,” she said.

Jan, belonging to a small town of KPK, wants to set up her own studio where she can teach her art to other girls.

“I don’t think anyone in the world can do this fine work,” commented Jan’s brother Kamran who is a sculptor.

Almas is studying medicine, however, she wants to continue her career in arts.

“This is my passion and I see something in it that’s more appealing than anything else.”

“People like my work when I share with them via my social media pages,” Jan said, adding, “I think it is because of the social media that my work is being appreciated in the PSL tournament.”
