COVID-19: All night events, weddings banned in Hyderabad

In the wake of COVID-19 second wave across the country, the Sindh government has imposed a ban on holding all sorts of night events, gatherings and weddings in Hyderabad.

According to a notification by the government, in order to curb the spread of the deadly COVID-19 pandemic, marriage ceremonies, gatherings and events at night in Hyderabad will be banned.

Wedding ceremonies will now take place outdoor from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., read the notification. The restrictions will apply from the 1st of December.

Earlier on November 23, the provincial government had enforced a ban over indoor wedding functions, gymnasiums, and restaurant with an immediate effect while only allowing an exception for ceremonies being held outside amid the second wave of Covid-19.

Wedding functions will only be allowed outdoors with a maximum guest capacity of 200 people, the notification had read.

The notification had said wedding functions will have to conclude by 9 pm while only buffet service will be allowed to serve guests.

FM Qureshi met Niger PM Rafini; announces scholarships to Nigerien students

Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi held a meeting with the Prime Minister of Niger Brigi Rafini in Niamey today (Saturday) and discussed bilateral relations.

FM Qureshi apprised the Niger Prime Minister about the ongoing situation in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

Pakistan will also send rice, blankets, tents and medicines for the flood victims of Niger, the foreign minister added.

Also, taking to Twitter, Shah has expressed that it was wonderful to meet PM Rafini. He also extended thankfulness on behalf of Pakistan for principled stance on Jammu & Kashmir dispute.

He said Pakistan will extend cooperation to Niger in different sectors including agriculture, irrigation and infrastructure development. He also announced scholarships for two hundred students of Niger.

Earlier in a day, in a meeting with his UAE counterpart, Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi highlighted the difficulties faced by Pakistani nationals in obtaining visas to the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Qureshi and UAE Minister of State Reem Al Hashimy met and discussed the need to resolve the issue as soon as possible.

The Foreign Office confirmed last week that the UAE had stopped issuing visas to Pakistani nationals as well as other countries.

A Foreign Office spokesman said the move appeared to be aimed at an outbreak of the coronavirus, but would seek further clarification from UAE officials.

According to the statement, “During the meeting, the two sides discussed bilateral cooperation, the situation at Cove 19, Pakistan’s participation in the Expo and other issues of mutual interest.”

Governor Punjab Chaudhry Mohammad Sarwar has on Saturday said that it was crucial for the prosperity of Pakistan that the living standard of the poor was raised, and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government was working for the same mission.

Chaudhry Sarwar, speaking to a ceremony in Sahiwal, said that only those serving humanity would be remembered always.

He was speaking at a ceremony held for distribution of 10,000 jackets among the poor children in Sahiwal and Chichawatni under the ‘Winter Appeal’ campaign, said a release issued by the Governor’s House.

The campaign was launched by the Sarwar Foundation to protect the poor children from cold. The school jackets were handed over to the district officers concerned of the Education Department.

The governor said that there was no dearth of philanthropists in Pakistan.

During the first wave of the novel Coronavirus, Rs 10 billion donations were collected and distributed only through the Governor’s House, with the support of philanthropists and the business community.

Responding to the media queries, Chaudhry Sarwar said that Pakistan had already suffered economic losses due to COVID-19 and even now if the virus intensifies, measures like lockdown would have to be taken.

He said Pakistan could not afford an unusual pandemic situation; therefore, the government was repeatedly asking the opposition to abstain from holding rallies.

Paying tribute to the legendary Bano Qudsia, former Pakistan skipper Ramiz Raja, shared an amusing story that most people are not aware of.

The former captain, in a tweet, said: “Today’s Google Doodle honours Bano Qudsia, writer [and] a spiritualist.”

“[I] remember as a kid while playing tennis ball cricket at her home I broke her verandas tube light,” commentator Raja said.

However, as Raja readied himself for a scolding, he got nothing but affection from Qudsia as she, with a warm expression, just wanted to know whether he was fine or not.

Google honours the legendary Bano Qudsia

Google, on Saturday, has honoured the acclaimed novelist on her 92nd birthday with a special doodle.

“Today’s Doodle honours the life and legacy of Pakistani novelist and stage and television playwright Bano Qudsia, affectionately known as Bano Aapa (Elder Sister), who is widely credited as one of the most significant Urdu language authors in modern times,” said the search engine.

She is best known for her novel Raja Gidh. Qudsia wrote for television and stage in both Urdu and Punjabi languages. She is recognized as a trendsetter in the realm of television plays, novels, and stage plays.

Bano Qudsia was born on 28 November 1928 in Firozpur, British India. She began writing stories at an early age and then moved to Lahore after the partition. In 1951, she completed her M.A. degree in Urdu from the Government College Lahore.

She wrote for college magazines and other journals. She graduated from Kinnaird College in Lahore.
