CM Sindh releases Rs463 million funds for rain emergency measures

The Sindh government on Wednesday released Rs463 million funds to cope with the damages and emergency situations after heavy rain lashed different parts of Karachi.

The funds were released on the orders of Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah.

According to the details, Rs200 million funds had been released by the provincial government for the Solid Waste Emergency and Efficiency Project (SWEEP) on July 26.

While giving details of funds, CM Sindh in a statement, said that the government on July 2 had released Rs229 million funds to divisional commissioners.

Edhi ambulance service suspended as heavy rain disrupts helpline

Pakistan’s largest charitable ambulance services by Edhi Foundation were suspended on Wednesday after the helpline service ‘115’ was blocked due to heavy rain in Karachi.

According to the Edhi Foundation spokesperson, the ambulance service 115 and all other information bureau phones are blocked due to rains, therefore, the ambulance network is currently not operational at the moment.

The spokesperson also apologized for the inconvenience caused to citizens due to the inaccessibility of the helpline.

Turkey passes law to regulate social media content

Turkey on Wednesday passed a controversial new law regulating social media to comply with any demands by the government to block or remove content.

Under the new law by Turkey, social media giants such as Facebook and Twitter have to ensure they have local representatives in Turkey and to comply with court orders over the removal of certain content or face heavy fines.

The legislation targets social networks with more than a million unique visits every day and says servers with Turkish users’ data must be stored locally.

If companies refuse to comply, they will face fines and restriction of bandwidth making the platform unusable.

The bill was submitted by the ruling AKP and its nationalist partner the MHP, which have a majority in the parliament, and passed after debates beginning on Tuesday and lasting into Wednesday.

However, after the night-long debate, the parliament went into summer recess till October.

One of Asia’s top women’s tennis tournament, the WTA Pan Pacific Open in Japan, has been called off first time due to Coronavirus pandemic, organizers said Tuesday.

The cancellation of the event, which was scheduled for November, follows last week’s axing of all international tennis tournaments in China for 2020.

The Pan Pacific’s demise ends a continuous run for the tournament since 1984 and leaves Asia with only one Women’s Tennis Association event, October’s Korea Open, on this year’s coronavirus-wrecked schedule.

It is also another scrapping for sport in Japan after the Tokyo Olympics, originally due to start last week, were postponed for a year over COVID-19.

Ed Sheeran revealed, “I have a very addictive personality. Very, very addictive personality,”

He added, “I’m reading Elton John’s book at the moment and there are so many things that he did that I do.”

The singer continued saying, “He would be like, ‘I would just go on an ice cream binge and eat four f*****g desserts until I throw it up’, and I was like, ‘I’ve done that before’. Or his martini binges, where he sees how many he can drink. And I’m like, ‘I’ve done that before too’. He ends up getting really f*****g sad and depressed and all of these things can add to that.”

The singer added that he has learned to manage and cope up with his addictive personality with moderation in everything.
