In the series, Ramy Hassan (Youssef), a first-generation Egyptian American, is struggling alongside his American millennial ways to reconcile his cultural and religious values. The Hulu show honors the Muslim faith while laying out a host of issues concerning the religion.

Although Ramy focuses on a Muslim American family, the series found a broad audience of millennials of diverse ethnic and religious backgrounds that could relate to the frustration of the character over his romantic life, career aspirations, and overbearing parents.
