Amazon walks back TikTok ban, saying it was a mistake

Amazon, in just a matter of hours, banned and then unbanned video sharing app TikTok from its employees phone.

The ban by Amazon on TikTok app was later declared as a ‘mistake’.

The news generated widespread attention for the Chinese-owned social media platform coming the same week US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said the United States is “certainly looking at” banning TikTok.

It was not immediately clear what led to the initial ban by Amazon. A source said senior Amazon executives were unaware of the request to delete TikTok from employee devices.

The ban was reversed after TikTok and Amazon representatives discussed the matter, according to the sources.

SBP imposes Rs1.68 billion heavy fines on 15 commercial banks

The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has imposed heavy fines on 15 commercial banks.

Their offences include not recording customers’ data and violating foreign exchange laws as well as violating anti-money laundering and terror financing laws.

A collective fine of Rs1.68 billion was imposed from March to June.

The State Bank has also issued a list of the banks. They are UBL, JS Bank, Meezan Bank, Faysal Bank, The Bank of Punjab, HBL, MCB, National Bank of Pakistan, Bank AlHabib, Habib Metropolitan Bank, Bank Alfalah, Askari Bank, Bank Islami, Punjab Provincial Cooperative Bank and the Zarai Taraqiati Bank.

Most of the banks violated customer due diligence rules while the Punjab Provincial Cooperative Bank and the Zarai Taraqiati Bank had violations under the anti-money laundering and terror financing rules.

‘Artificial audio tape was created against me’: Ajmal Wazir

Former Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government advisor Ajmal Wazir, who stepped down from his post after an audio scandal, said that a conspiracy was hatched against him.

In a statement, Ajmal Wazir said that he was convinced of the vision of Prime Minister Imran Khan and would face the charges. Artificial audio tape was created by editing various meetings and briefings.

The basis on which this audio was based was the list of the advertising companies for the TV channel. According to the information rules, the chairman of the steering committee is the Minister of Information. The steering committee had met twice and was chaired by the health minister, said Ajmal Wazir.

Former Information Advisor said that he has nothing to do with the issue for which he is being criticized.

I was an honorary member of the committee, had no decision-making power, he added.

Actress Yashma Gill self-isolated after contracting Coronavirus

Pakistan’s showbiz actress Yashma Gill has announced her contraction of Coronavirus and said that she has isolated herself.

Taking to her Instagram story, Yashma wrote, “3 days ago I felt feverish and mild symptoms associated with #Covid19 – so I self-isolated & got myself test immediately. Last evening the report came positive, but so far I am doing fine (alhamdulillah) except the initial symptoms.”

She further said, “Initial thought was [I] won’t tell anyone – but then I realised we can’t create a stigma around this disease and we need to fight it. Keep me in your prayers … because I feel scared!”
