The Havana singer, Camila Cabello, who dated Mendes on and off for over two years, recently released June Gloom, a track from her new album that is rumored to be about Shawn Mendes. “I wrote June Gloom after I had hung out with [the song’s subject],” Cabello revealed to Nylon magazine.
Cabello shared that the song came together quickly. “I wrote it so fast because everything [was] so personal,” she said. She also described her creative process, explaining she prefers solitude when writing intimate music. “When I know I’m about to be intimate, I don’t want anybody [there],” she explained.
The singer also clarified the song’s target, stating, “I was like, ‘I’m writing this for you, b–ch,’” adding, “‘B–ch’ sounds like I’m talking about a girl. I just don’t want them to think it’s me being like girl-versus-girl. Can we say, ‘It’s about you, mother–r?’”
The interview follows speculation sparked by Carpenter’s song Taste, which hinted at Mendes returning to Cabello after their brief relationship. During her iHeart Music Festival performance, Cabello subtly reacted by staying silent on the word “taste” while performing Señorita with Mendes.
