Shafqat Mahmood Wishes Good Luck To Students Attending Schools Tomorrow

As the remaining educational institutions are reopening from tomorrow, February 1st, Federal Minister for Education Shafqat Mahmood has wished good luck to the rest of the students. 

Taking to the micro-blogging site Twitter, Shafqat Mahmood wished the students good luck and wrote,

“All the remaining educational institutions are opening tomorrow. I wish the very best to all students.”

Earlier, Federal Education Minister Shafqat Mahmood announced that schools and colleges would reopen in Pakistan from January 18.

While addressing a press conference, Federal Education Minister Shafqat Mahmood announced that in the first phase, classes 9 to 12 would be allowed to resume from January 18.

COVID-19 Situation Will Decide Reopening Of Schools: Shafqat Mehmood

On Thursday, the Federal Minister for Education and Professional Training Shafqat Mehmood announced that a meeting between education and health ministers will be held tomorrow (Friday, 15th January) to review the coronavirus situation in Pakistan.

Taking to Twitter, Shafqat Mehmood said that the COVID-19 situation has to be reviewed before the students go back to school.

He wrote,

“Education and Health Ministers meeting again tomorrow to review the coronavirus situation before students start coming to school.”

He continued writing,

“While I desperately want education to continue the final decision will be on health grounds. Students well being will always be a priority.”

Murtaza Wahab says, the situation is still not certain to reopen schools

Sindh government spokesperson Murtaza Wahab on Saturday has urged the government officials and educational departments to reconsider their decision of reopening schools, stating that the “situation is still not certain”.

In a tweet, Murtaza Wahab stressed that children may not be able to follow the COVID-19 SOPs and that the infection has still not been eliminated across the country.

“The situation is still not certain and children may not be able to follow the [standard operating procedures] SOPs,” he said in a tweet.

Earlier on September 7, Federal Minister for Education Shafqat Mahmood had said that educational institutions will reopen across the country in phases starting September 15, as COVID-19 infections continue to decline.

“All universities, Higher Education Commission’s (HEC) institutes, and colleges will be reopened from September 15,” said Mahmood. “[The government] has allowed for classes of grades IX, X, and XI to be conducted [from September 15] as well.”

The minister had thanked parents for “patiently waiting” for the past six months, stating that the country is now able to reopen colleges and universities from September 15.
