COVID-19 Situation Will Decide Reopening Of Schools: Shafqat Mehmood

On Thursday, the Federal Minister for Education and Professional Training Shafqat Mehmood announced that a meeting between education and health ministers will be held tomorrow (Friday, 15th January) to review the coronavirus situation in Pakistan.

Taking to Twitter, Shafqat Mehmood said that the COVID-19 situation has to be reviewed before the students go back to school.

He wrote,

“Education and Health Ministers meeting again tomorrow to review the coronavirus situation before students start coming to school.”

He continued writing,

“While I desperately want education to continue the final decision will be on health grounds. Students well being will always be a priority.”

KP government announces to hire 25,000 new teachers

On Thursday, the Kyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has decided to recruit 25,0000 teachers and introduce a smart school system in the province soon.

KP Education Minister Shahram Tarakai said while talking to the media in Peshawar that new furniture will be provided to schools with the commence of the new academic session in the province.

“Provision of quality education in the province is the top priority of the government. 25,000 teachers to be recruited in order to fulfill the shortage,” he said.

He further said that cameras will also be installed to eliminate cheating culture in the examination centers. The Education Minister said that the provincial government was also constructing student facilitation centers across Kyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Earlier, the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) government on 5th January extended the winter vacations of schools till January 31st, 2021 owing to the freezing conditions in the province.

According to the notification, the schools in the upper region of the province will also be reopening from February 1.
