Johar Town Blast: Owner Of Vehicle arrested by law enforcement agencies

Johar Town Blast Vehicle owner arrested

The owner of the vehicle used in the blast in Lahore’s Johar Town area has been taken into custody.

According to sources, the arrested man is a resident of Gujranwala. He was offloaded from a Karachi-bound flight at Lahore’s Allama Iqbal International Airport and taken into custody by the law enforcement agencies as a suspect in yesterday’s Johar Town blast.

He has been shifted to an undisclosed location for interrogation, sources added.

An investigation into the powerful blast in Lahore’s Johar Town that killed three people and left more than 20 people is underway. Six-year-old Abdul Haq, his father Abdul Malik, and a passer-by died in the explosion on Wednesday.

Earlier in the day, the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) has on Thursday carried raids across different cities of Punjab in connection with the Johar Town blast.

According to sources, CTD and intelligence agencies have received the evidence from the crime scene.

Ball bearings, pieces of iron and the vehicle’s parts have also been preserved, added sources.

Investigative agencies have also started geo-fencing the area to help with the blast probe,  sources said.

On the other hand, several suspicious persons are also under custody by the CTD.

Three people, including a 6-year-old boy, were killed and more than twenty left wounded in a blast outside a house in Lahore’s Johar Town area on Wednesday, June 23.

Speaking to the media after the Lahore Johar Town blast, Punjab IG Inam Ghani confirmed that it was a bomb blast.

“A bomb planted in a car went off. The vehicle cannot reach its target due to police barriers,” he said. “The police were the target of the bomb blast.”

The provincial police chief said ball-bearings driven by the blast hit the injured, adding the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) had previously traced such cases and will also investigate this incident thoroughly.

“The provincial police had received 65 threat alerts,” he added.

Three people were killed and more than twenty left wounded after a vehicle laden with explosives blew up in the city’s Johar Town near Hafiz Saeed’s residence. Police said militants had targeted police in the explosion.

According to sources, CTD and intelligence agencies have received the evidence from the crime scene.

Ball bearings, pieces of iron and the vehicle’s parts have also been preserved, added sourced.

Lahore CCPO Ghulam Mehmood Dogar, in a statement, said that the injured were immediately shifted to Jinnah Hospital. “The nature of the blast is being determined,” he said.

He also commanded officials to keep citizens away from the site of the blast so that there is no barrier in carrying out rescue and relief efforts.

A spokesperson for Rescue 1122 said that it was not immediately clear what caused the explosion. “So far we have not been able to determine whether a gas pipeline burst or whether it was a cylinder. But we have shifted four people [to the hospital] and more injured are expected,” he said.

Also, Punjab Health Minister Yasmin Rashid has arrived at Jinnah Hospital to witness the injured.

She told that several injured are currently in critical condition and the death toll may rise.

Moreover, Prime Minister Imran Khan has also planted a tree during his visit to Raiwind earlier today.

On the other hand, arrangements for Prime Minister Imran Khan’s visit to Saudi Arabia have been completed. The Prime Minister will leave for Saudi Arabia for a two-day official visit on Saturday.

According to sources, the Pakistani government delegation will reach Saudi Arabia in two to three phases. The first government delegation has left Pakistan for Saudi Arabia.

The delegation includes Special Assistant to Prime Minister Malik Amin Aslam and Chairman Standing Committee on Defense Amjad Khan Niazi.

Sources said that the delegation will have important meetings tomorrow regarding the Billion Tree Tsunami Project in Saudi Arabia.

He had mild symptoms (Fever and Flu) since last night and in self-isolation as per the advice of Doctors. Request for prayers for early recovery.”

Earlier, CM Buzdar had given up his official duties due to ill health.

Azhar Mashwani had said in a tweet on social networking site Twitter that doctors had advised Usman Buzdar to temporarily give up all political and office engagements and rest due to ill health.
