Republic, an anti-monarchy organization, responded to reports of senior British royals planning two years of tours to safeguard Commonwealth relations.

In reaction to royal expert Richard Eden’s tweet, the group commented, “Because their last tours went so well. When William and Kate toured the Caribbean last year, it prompted host countries to declare their intention to become republics. #AbolishTheMonarchy.”

The Republic group’s CEO, Graham Smith, also expressed his reaction to Eden’s tweet, stating, “Excellent news for the republican movements of the Commonwealth.”

Earlier, there were indications that King Charles, Queen Camilla, Prince William, and Kate Middleton are eager to demonstrate that “soft diplomacy” can improve relations with countries. King Charles’ visit to Germany in March marked his only state visit since ascending to the throne in September.

As reported, an insider mentioned, “State visits are back in business.”

These royals tours are strategically aimed at safeguarding relations with Commonwealth members.

The first of several anti-coronation protests began when two Republic campaign supporters nailed a voting station sign to the Buckingham Palace railings.

As part of the campaign’s demand for a public vote on the survival of the monarchy, the two activists affixed the 2-metre sign proclaiming Buckingham Palace a polling station on the gates this morning around 8am.

Graham Smith spoke on behalf of the Republic and said: “We want to drive home the need for a vote on the future of the monarchy. We should be able to decide, do we want Charles or a choice?”

“Within a few days thousands of people have signed a petition calling for a public vote on the monarchy. We’re expecting tens of thousands more to add their name to the demand over coming weeks.”

“We’re calling on people to put up their own polling station signs around the country at 6pm every Tuesday. It’s time to drive home this message, that the people deserve a vote.”

“Republic is planning stunts and protests over the coming weeks and will be staging a large demonstration at the coronation in may.”
