Home Department imposes section 144 in Punjab

LAHORE: The Punjab Home Department has imposed Section 144 in the province ahead of general elections 2024.

The Punjab Home Department has issued a notification of Section 144, according to which there will be a complete ban on carrying weapons under Section 144. The notification states that aerial firing will be banned and action will be taken against violation.

The notification states that violation of the Election Commission of Pakistan’s code of conduct will also fall under Section 144.

According to the notification, there are reports of security threats in the election on February 8, there are possibilities of terrorism and fights between candidates.

Section 144 was enforced by the Punjab government till February 12.

ECP freezes development funds of LG departments

ISLAMABAD:  The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has frozen the development funds of all local government departments.

According to the notification issued by the ECP, the development funds of the local government departments have been frozen until the announcement of the results of the general elections.

The notification states that the local governments will only carry out the day-to-day affairs of sanitation and cleanliness, but no local development scheme will be announced or worked on.

The notification further states that local governments and cantonment boards will not award tenders till the results of the general elections.
