Genelia Deshmukh reveals reason behind her decade-long acting break

“I felt fulfilled because I had also become a mom,” she said.

Actor Genelia Deshmukh is set for a packed 2025, with multiple projects in the pipeline, including her upcoming Marathi film Raja Shivaji and the much-anticipated Sitaare Zameen Par opposite Aamir Khan.

“This year, a lot is going on for me. I have the release of Sitaare Zameen Par opposite (actor) Aamir Khan sir. Then Raja Shivaji just went on floors, and we’ll be shooting a tight schedule. There’s new development in my business venture as well. So, here’s looking forward to a great 2025,” she shares.

After taking a decade-long break from acting to focus on her family, Genelia made her comeback with the 2022 Marathi film Ved. Reflecting on that period, she says, “I wanted that break, and I felt fulfilled by it because I had also become a mom. But when I came back in 2022, it was on Riteish’s insistence as he was clear that I need to do things that I love.”

Now, she is keen on taking up meaningful roles. “If I get to play more characters like these, I’ll be happy to accept them wholeheartedly, but if I don’t, I’ll wait,” she adds. Balancing multiple roles in her life, she embraces each one with gratitude, saying, “It’s just embracing life in its fullest and feeling that immense sense of gratitude.”
